Mandatory reporting in healthcare Child or young person at risk of significant harm • • • • • • • • • • • • Basic physical or psychological needs are not being met or at-risk f not being met. Parents of caregivers have not arranged and are unable or unwilling to arrange for the child or young person to receive young necessary medical care. Not arranging education to the child as per education act Physical or sexual abuse or at risk of Living in a household of domestic violence and therefore the child or young person is at risk of serious physical or psychological harm. Parent or caregiver behaved in such way where the child is or at risk of suffering serious psychological harm. - Physical or sexual abuse my include assault and can exist despite the fact that consent has been obtained. Any such circumstance may relate to a single act or omission or to a series of acts or omissions. Report when: - A person to whom this section applies has reasonable grounds to suspect that a child is at risk of significant harm and - Those grounds arise during or from a person’s work or role in a subsection. It is the duty of the person to report, as soon as practical, to the secretary (secretary of the department) the name or a description of the child and the ground for suspecting the child is at risk of significant harm. In determining how to make investigation and assessment in accordance with the section 30 in the cause of a young person, the Secretary must have regard to any known wish expressed by the young person that he or she did not want to report to be made, taking into account the age of the young person and the extent to which the young person, and other children and young persons, appear to be at risk of significant harm Section 30: Secretary’s investigations and assessment: - The secretary is to make such investigations and assessment as the secretary considers necessary to determine whether the child or young person is at risk of significant harm or - The secretary may decide to take no further action if, on the basis of the information provided, the secretary considers there is insufficient reason to believe that the child or young person is at risk of significant harm. If the secretary forms the opinion on a reasonable ground that a child or young person is need of care and protection, the secretary is to take whatever action is necessary to safeguard or promote the safety, welfare and well-being of the child or young person. - The secretary might take in response to a report includes the following: ✓ Providing or arranging for the provision of support services for the child or young person and his or her family, ➢ Offering alternative dispute resolution process to the family of the child or young person as referred to in section 37 Accidental ingestion of drugs in children • The first thing that a parent should do is call the toll-free Poison Help Line • - 1-800-222-1222 or call 000.
