Major Health Needs to the Elderly in GWS Statistics      In 2017, 15% of the Australian population is made up of the elderly. More than 1 in 3 general practice encounters involve the aged (over 65 years old). People aged 85 years and over are increasingly presenting to general practices compared to other groups. Older people may experience abuse with about 2 to 14% experience elder abuse. 50% of the elderly in Australia have some disability. Healthcare Needs    The leading burdens are cardiovascular disease, cancer, neurological conditions, musculoskeletal conditions and respiratory conditions. - T2DM - Cardiovascular diseases -> especially stroke and heart failure. - Dementia - CKD - Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis etc. - COPD - Asthma - Mental health: depression, anxiety and cognitive decline. - Oral health and diseases - Age related hearing loss. - Cataracts, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. - Chronic pain. Social isolation, caregiver stress and elder abuse are critical issues. Access to services such as transport is an issue for the elderly.
