Your answer: The viscosity of blood is determine by plasma proteins and the formed elements, leukocytes, erythrocytes, and thrombocytes. 2 Explain the eﬀect that the viscosity change had on ﬂow rate. How well did the results compare with your prediction? Your answer: Increasing the viscosity caused major decreases in the ﬂow rate. The two are indirectly proportional, so when viscosity increases, ﬂow rate decreases. This was just as I had predicted. 3 Describe the graph of ﬂow versus viscosity. Your answer: The graph of ﬂow versus viscosity had a downward slope. With viscosity on the x axis and ﬂow on the y axis, you can see that the lower the viscosity, the higher the ﬂow rate. As the viscosity increased the ﬂow rate has a dramatic decrease that you can see on the plot graph as the points get lower and lower. 4 Discuss the eﬀect that polycythemia would have on viscosity and on blood ﬂow. Your answer: Polycythemia is a condition in which there are an excess of red blood cells located in blood. This would cause an increase in viscosity and a decrease in blood ﬂow. 3/3
