Parasitic infection : Scabies / Scabies Definition Scabies (mites) is an eruption/appearance that is only very smallon the skin caused by Sarcoptes Scabies. Female scabies/mites make burrow into the skin and store the eggs which then hatch and become larvae within a few days. Scabies can easily be caused by passing skin to skin contact/contact, contact from contaminated objects such as linen/sheets, or sexually. The spreader can be quickly between fellow members in a household, orphanage or institution, but reactions inflammation and itching do not occur until approximately 30-60 days after intercourse beginning. Clinical manifestations Symptoms include severe prunitus (worse at night) usually skin excoriations and holes where the edges are lined with a vesicle at one end. Mites are usually found in holes It usually occurs in the tissue between the fingers, the flexor part of the wrist hands (volar surface), axilla, waist circle, female nipples, genitalia men, and navel. Severe scratches/scratching can cause severe excoriation and secondary infections. Itching can spread secondary to sensitization. Medical management The mite can be removed from one end of the hole with a needle or eye scalpel which is then examined with a microscope. In cases that long/long, the myth may not be found. Specific Implications for Therapists Scabies • If the patient being treated has scabies, prevent transmission by washing hands properly and wear gloves when touching patients. • Check the wound and skin condition 24 hours after giving the medicine. • Clean blood pressure cuffs or other devices with a sterilizer autoclave (gas autoclave) after use on patients suffering from scabies before used on other patients. • All blankets and sheets/towels must be sterilized and not used by other patients until the patient is declared cured. • If the patient is treated outside the hospital room (for example: on a bed or mattress). The area must be properly sterilized after use.
