EXAMINATION OF TRIGLYCERIDES The main function of the body's most important triglycerides is as a source reserve energy if glucose and glycogen are reduced, such as during fasting. After eating, triglyceride levels in the blood increase and are bound to protein micelles which is called chilomicron which causes the serum to be cloudy in color. Therefore, to check blood fats, you must fast for 12 – 14 hours. Normal value fasting triglycerides < 150 mg%, borderline values up to 200 mg% and pathology > 200 mg%. Practicum a. Tools and materials 1) Human blood 2) Sterile lancet / syringe 2 ml 3) 70% alcohol cotton 4) Test tube 5) Micro centrifuge 6) Clinical photometer b. Work procedures 1) Approximately 1 ml of blood is taken, then the blood is centrifuged rotation at 4000 rpm for 15 minutes to obtain blood serum 2) Measurement of blood triglyceride levels Ø Set the instrument to zero with a reagent blank Ø Put it in a cuvette Ø Mix and incubate for 5 minutes at 37o C Ø Read the absorption of samples, calibrators and blanks. Color stable in less than 60 minutes.
