STRUCTURES IN MOVEMENT REPRESENTATIONS I. Definition  Definition: Cognitive units that tie together information related to complex actions.  Conscious and Explicable: BACs are within limits conscious and can be explained.  Communication: Often communicated in training processes (e.g., coaching cues). 2. Role of BACs  Information Storage: BACs store sensory perceptual effects caused by submovements.  Recall: Sensory effects are recalled from long-term memory based on BACs.  Representation Structure: The structure of complex action representations is defined by the functional relation of BACs within the execution of the movement. 3. Example: Fosbury Flop  Functional Phases of Fosbury Flop: Approach, Take-off Preparation, Take-off, Flight, Landing.  BACs: Represented in verbal labels (e.g., "drive phase," "lift hips"). III. Structures in Movement Representations 1. Learning Processes  Learning Processes: Information from motor learning processes (extrinsic and intrinsic feedback) is stored, integrated, and organized in long-term memory.  Functional Representation Structure: Arrangement of BACs reflects all phases of movement execution. 2. Example: High Jump  High Jump Biomechanical Structure: Main goal is to clear the bar with a onelegged takeoff.  Preparatory Phases: Approach and takeoff preparation.  Main Phase: Clearing the bar during the flight.  Final Phase: Landing.  Functions: Each movement phase serves a specific function to achieve the main goal.  Clustered BACs: BACs with similar functions and characteristics are grouped within clusters. IV. Measurement and Variability of Movement Representations 1. Investigating Movement Representations  Research Approaches: Learning studies and comparative studies with novices, intermediates, and experts.  Measurement Method: "Structural Dimensional Analysis - Motoric" (SDA-M).  Findings: Movement representations develop during the learning process, differ between skill levels, approach optimal functional structures, aid in skill diagnostics, vary with team tactics knowledge, and can be modified through mental training.
