Subcutaneously 1. Understanding It is a way of giving medication by injection under the skin which can be done in the outer upper arm area or one third of the shoulder, outer thigh, chest area and around the umbilicus (abdomen). 2. Goals Administration of medication through subcutaneous tissue is generally carried out using an insulin administration program which is used to control blood sugar levels. There are 2 types of solutions for administering insulin, namely clear and cloudy due to the addition of protein which slows down the absorption of the drug or is also a slow type. 3. Matters needing attention:  Injection site  Type of syringe and needle to be used  Infections that may occur during injection  Client's condition or illness  Is the patient who will be given the injection the right patient?  The drug that will be given must be correct  The dose to be given must be correct.  The correct method or route of administration is the right time and correct 4. Indications and contraindications - Indication: Can be done on patients who are unconscious and do not want to cooperate, because it is not possible to give medication orally, free from infection, skin lesions, scar tissue, bony prominences, muscles or underlying nerves, small doses of medication that are soluble in water. - Contraindications: stimulating drugs, drugs in large doses and not soluble in water or oil. 1. Tools and materials  List of medication books/notes and medication administration schedule.  Medicines are in place  Insulin syringe  Alcohol swab in place  Dissolving liquid  Injection tank  Bend the plaster and the base 2. Work procedures  Washing hands  Explain the procedure to be carried out  Free the area to be injected or free the injection from clothing.  If you are wearing clothes, take off your clothes and lift them up.  Take the medicine in its place according to the dose to be given.  After that, place it in the injection tub.  Disinfect with alcohol cotton.  Stretch with your left hand (the area where the subcutaneous injection will be performed).  Perform the puncture with the needle hole facing upwards at a 45 degree angle from the surface of the skin.  Perform aspiration, if there is no blood, inject slowly until it runs out.  Pull out the syringe and hold it with alcohol cotton and insert the syringe that has been used into the bend.  Record the results of administration, date, time of administration, and type and dose of medication.  Washing hands. 3. Injection area: - Buttock muscles (musculus gluteus maximus) right & left; the right one is 1/3 of the Anterior Superior Iliaca Spina to the coccyx (os coxygeus) - Outer thigh muscles (quadriceps femoris muscles) - Base of arm muscles (deltoid muscles)
