Why do you think the author wrote /created this?
What about the separate pieces? Who is/are the character(s)? Are they believable? Is there a
protagonist, an antagonist? What about the setting, why or why isn't it real? What--if any--is the
conflict? What--if any--is the theme?

In the story “ The God of Cake” the author Allie Brosh created this story to be funny and to
make people laugh while reading it. The author was trying to be comedic as they wrote the story,
sharing a funny memory from their childhood. The characters in this include a little girl, her
mother, grandmother, and grandfather. The little girl is the main character with her having an
ongoing battle with her mother to eat her grandfather’s birthday cake. The way the little girl is
trying to get the cake throughout the story is hilarious with all that she goes through trying to
achieve her goal. The setting of the story helps to explain the types of obstacles she had to go up
to get the cake that her mother keeping away from her. As the setting changed o the little girl’s
grandparent’s house it was easier for her, as kids get what they want when they are with their
grandparents. But as for the little girl, it was a different situation, with her mother putting her
outside. In the story, there is an antagonist and protagonist, the little girl being the protagonist
and her mother being the antagonist. With the girl trying to get the birthday cake and her mother
doing everything in her power to keep it away from her, shows the problem between the
antagonist and protagonist. My reaction to this story is that it was a good one, I like how the little
girl wouldn’t stop trying to get what she wanted until she got it. There is nothing wrong with the
story as most people can relate it to their childhood. I like the story, especially since it was funny
and how it got my attention at the beginning of the story.
In the short film “ French Roast” the creator Fabrice Joubert made the film to show how one bad
act can ruin your day. The creator surprised us throughout the film with how the events took
place. The characters in this short film include a businessman, waiter, homeless man, old lady,
and a police officer. The businessman is the main character in the short film as he is having a
drink when a homeless man comes up to him asking for money. The businessman said no o
giving him money while not knowing he didn’t have money at all. The setting of this short film
takes place in a nice looking cafe, it is a good setting with making the viewer feel like they are
there, with the reflection from the window in the cafe showing more. What makes this film good is with all the stuff the businessman goes through trying to pay for his drinks, like planning when
to take money from the old lady only for the policeman to wait at the cafe to find a criminal.
With the setting change from being in the day to being at night, the businessman still there
ordering more drinks. The most surprising part of the film is when the businessman decides to go
in the old lady’s purse for money, he pulls out a mask that looks like the criminal. That scene in
the film helps explain why the old lady had a stack of cash in her purse. After the whole scene
with the officer shooting at the ceiling leads to when the homeless man paid for the businessman
drinks. The businessman would have never expected that kind of act, for he would have no done
it. My reaction to the short film is that it was a great one, with all that happened through and
keeping me in wanted to know how the man was going to pay for his drinks.
