FUNDAMENTALS OF SPEECHE COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENT-(CMST101) -Lecture Notes (2020) -Chapter 2 : -PRACTICALLY SPEAKING : 2.1 Short Speech Technique : Prepare and present a twarninute speech in which you : a. describe a public Speech you heard recently. b. explain a print advertisement in terms of the steps for preparing a public speech. c. explain any one of the steps of public speaking as it might apply to intercultural conversation. d. describe how you see your class as an audience for your next speech. 2.2Constructing an Informative Speech Consult the "Dictionary of Topics" in Unit 6, pages 103-109, for suggestions an informative speech topics. Select a topic and : a. formulate a Specific thesis. b. formulate a specific purpose suitable for on informative speech of approximately five minutes. c. analyze this class as your potential audience and identify ways that you can relate this topic to their interests and needs. d. generate at least two maior propositions from your thesis. e. support these propositions with examples, illustrations, and definitions. f. construct à conclusion that summarizes your main ideas and brings the speech to a definite close. g. construct an introduction that gains attention and orients your audience. Discuss those outlines in small groups or with the class as a whole. Try to secure feedback from other members on how you can improve these outlines. 2.3 Constructing a Persuasive Speech Here are 20 topics for persuasive speeches. Read these speeches as carefully as you would read the text ; they're concrete illUstrations of' the principles discussed in the text and will prove extremely useful as models of excellence, The following speech is presented as a summary of the major parts of a public speech. The annotations will guide you through the speech and will illustrate the principles considered in this unit. The questions will give you an opportunity to apply your newly acquired public speaking skills.
