Growth Factors on Microorganism Growth factors are organic compounds that Required in small amounts and not required for all cells. Growth factors include vitamins, amino acids, purines and pyrimidines. Although most cells can synthesize these compounds, some cells need them from the environment or must be added to the medium. Vitamins are mostly needed as growth substances and function as coenzyme components. Lactic acid bacteria such as Streptococcus, Lactobacillus, and Leuconostoc are bacteria that require multivitamins in greater numbers than humans. Vitamins that are widely needed include thiamine, biotin, pyridoxine, and cobalamin.
