The more people experience something, the more they tend to like it "it grew on me" ● Birds of a Feather Similarity: people like being around others they have in common with (attitudes, beliefs, interests) the more they are attracted to it as its a validation of own beliefs. Similarity draws people together and helps them stay together ○ "Opposites Attract" Complementary Qualities: characteristics in a person that fill a need in the other can be rewarding. Not supported by research Reciprocity of Liking: people to like other people who like them in return ● Study Curtis and Miller: paired college students where they didn't know each other. One pair received info about if the other person liked or dislike them. If like, they were friendly which made them like them too and vice versa. Whites preferred Pinterest, Africans preferred Instagram. China used Ozone but less than the U.S. ● Study Mikami: YA who had positive social relations use online to enhance those same ones. Those who didn't use social media or used them in a negative way towards others ● Study Szell and Thurner: females have more friends do more buying are more likely to friend people than males. Females take fewer risks online than males. Short term - "I think I'm in love" or long-term - "I want to be with this person for the rest of my life" Love Triangles: a love relationship between 2 people can involve 1,2,3 or the components of love in various combinations - produces 7 different forms of love ● Liking, Romantic Love & Companionate, Infatuation & Fatuous Love & Empty Love ● Romantic Love: intimacy and passion, more lasting relationship ● Companionate Love: intimacy and commitment, binding tie that holds a marriage together through parenting, bills, and physical passion ● Consummate Love: intimacy, passion, and commitment - ideal form of love that is the ultimate goal
