Q. What is minor phyla? Enlist minor phyla with suitable examples. - 16M Minor Phyla: Comprises little known small animals which appeared before the main stream of evolution diverged. They are grouped together as minor phyla. They are rarely seen as they are usually hidden away in other animals or plants. Several peculiar animals constitute separate phylum. Each phyla contains a few species. Examples: Rotifera Acanthocephala Pogonophora A. Acanthocephala: Minute worm-like endoparasite No digestive cavity Protrusible proboscis with recurved spines (Figure of Acanthocephalan) B. Entoprocta: Sessile Body of calyx and slender stalk Digestive tube U-shaped Mostly marine Mouth and anus surrounded by a tentacular crown (Figure: Entoprocta) C. Rotifera: Microscopic Anterior end with a ciliated crown Pharynx with internal jaws Mostly fresh water and some are marine (Figure: Rotifera)
