‭T‭R ‬ ANSPORT OF THE‬ ‭O2‬‭AND‬‭CO2‬‭IN THE BLOOD‬ ‭O2 transport‬ ‭Oxygen transport occurs in two forms:‬ ‭⮚‬ ‭2% of O2 is transported in dissolved form, which represents:‬ ‭0.3ml / 100ml of blood or 9 to 15 ml of O2 per 5l of blood.‬ ‭⮚‬ ‭98% of O2 is bound to hemoglobin in red blood cells (in the form‬ ‭combined). Hemoglobin is composed of:‬ ‭‬ g ● ‭ lobin‬ ‭●‬ ‭4 hemes: 2 α chains and 2 β chains. Each heme‬ ‭contains an iron atom that can fix O2‬ ‭So each molecule of Hb can fix 4 O2.‬ ‭The reaction of hemoglobin with O2 will produce oxyhemoglobin.‬ ‭ his‬ ‭means‬ ‭that‬ ‭when‬ ‭we‬ ‭are‬ ‭iron‬ ‭deficient,‬ ‭we‬ ‭have‬ ‭a‬ ‭reduction‬ ‭in‬ ‭O2‬ T ‭transport‬ ‭and‬ ‭therefore‬ ‭poorer‬ ‭oxygenation‬ ‭and‬ ‭therefore‬ ‭oxidation‬ ‭does‬ ‭not‬ ‭take‬ ‭place‬ ‭correctly.‬ ‭So‬ ‭we‬ ‭have‬ ‭muscular‬ ‭fatigue‬ ‭due‬‭to‬‭this‬‭lack‬‭of‬ ‭iron which means that the hemoglobin is no longer able to‬ ‭“capture” O2.‬ ‭ thletes‬ ‭use‬ ‭a‬ ‭lot‬ ‭of‬ ‭oxygen‬ ‭and‬ ‭therefore‬ ‭iron‬ ‭may‬ ‭be‬ ‭lacking‬ ‭in‬ ‭the‬ A ‭event‬ ‭of‬ ‭a‬ ‭dietary‬ ‭imbalance.‬ ‭We‬ ‭must‬ ‭therefore‬ ‭pay‬ ‭attention‬ ‭to‬ ‭the‬ ‭athlete's diet.‬ I‭ n‬ ‭the‬ ‭case‬ ‭of‬ ‭anemia‬ ‭(reduction‬ ‭in‬ ‭blood‬ ‭quantity),‬‭there‬‭may‬‭also‬‭be‬‭a‬ ‭reduction‬ ‭in‬ ‭O2‬ ‭transport.‬ ‭In‬ ‭girls,‬ ‭during‬ ‭menstruation,‬ ‭there‬ ‭may‬ ‭be‬ ‭a‬ ‭drop‬ ‭in‬ ‭performance‬ ‭because‬ ‭there‬ ‭is‬ ‭blood‬ ‭loss.‬ ‭If‬ ‭this‬ ‭blood‬ ‭loss‬ ‭is‬ ‭significant, disrupted and reduced oxidation may appear.‬ I‭ n‬ ‭muscles,‬ ‭oxygen‬ ‭is‬ ‭transported‬ ‭by‬ ‭a‬ ‭molecule‬ ‭very‬ ‭similar‬ ‭to‬ ‭hemoglobin. This molecule is myoglobin.‬
