‭Respiratory volumes‬ ‭ espiratory‬ ‭Volumes‬ ‭(inspiration‬ ‭and‬ ‭expiration)‬‭can‬‭be‬‭measured‬‭at‬‭rest‬ R ‭using‬ ‭what‬ ‭is‬ ‭called‬ ‭respiratory‬ ‭function‬ ‭testing‬ ‭(FRE).‬ ‭EFR‬ ‭is‬ ‭done‬ ‭by‬ ‭spirometry (measurement of volumes).‬ ‭ e‬ ‭can‬ ‭also‬ ‭define‬ ‭what‬ ‭we‬ ‭call‬ ‭dynamic‬ ‭volumes.‬ ‭Among‬ ‭the‬ ‭dynamic‬ W ‭volumes,‬ ‭the‬ ‭maximum‬ ‭exhaled‬ ‭volume‬ ‭per‬ ‭second‬ ‭(FEV1)‬ ‭is‬ ‭generally‬ ‭measured.‬ ‭ his‬‭volume‬‭is‬‭of‬‭little‬‭interest‬‭on‬‭its‬‭own.‬‭It‬‭is‬‭related‬‭to‬‭the‬‭vital‬‭capacity‬ T ‭and‬ ‭the‬ ‭FEV‬ ‭/‬ ‭CV‬ ‭ratio‬ ‭(vital‬ ‭capacity)‬ ‭represents‬ ‭the‬ ‭TIFFENEAU‬ ‭index.‬ ‭This‬ ‭index‬ ‭in‬ ‭all‬ ‭subjects‬ ‭who‬ ‭have‬ ‭lungs‬ ‭in‬ ‭good‬ ‭condition‬ ‭with‬ ‭open‬ ‭bronchi‬ ‭must‬ ‭represent‬ ‭80%‬‭(this‬‭means‬‭that‬‭when‬‭exhaling‬‭we‬‭must‬‭be‬ ‭able to exhale in the first second of exhalation 80% of our capacity vital).‬ ‭Vital capacity represents the sum of three volumes:‬ ‭⮚‬ ‭the resting volume called tidal volume or tidal volume.‬ ‭⮚‬ ‭Inspiratory reserve volume (IRV)‬ ‭⮚‬ ‭Expiratory reserve volume (ERV)‬ ‭These volumes depend on age, gender and height.‬ ‭Average values of the different volumes:‬ ‭▪‬ ‭VC ≈ 500 ml‬ ‭▪‬ ‭VRI ≈ 2.5 l‬ ‭▪‬ ‭ERV ≈ 1.5 l‬ ‭▪‬ ‭CV ≈ 4.5 l‬ ‭▪‬ ‭VR ≈ 1l‬ ‭▪‬ ‭CPT ≈ 5.5 l‬ ‭▪‬ ‭FEV ≈ 3.4 l‬ ‭ ith the spirometer we can only measure mobilizable volumes (VC, VRE,‬ W ‭VRI).‬
