INTRODUCTION TO PRACTICUM 1 This practical guide is designed to help you learn the steps of examination activitiesAirway, Breathing and Circulation(A B C). Emergency assessments generally use the ABC approach (Airways= BREATHWAY, Breathing=BREATHING and Circulation=CIRCULATION). Please remember that before carrying out an assessment, you must pay attention to personal protection (personal safety and security) and the condition of the surrounding environment. Self -protection is very important for you with the aim of protecting and preventing transmission of various diseases carried by the victim. Likewise, the surrounding environment must be safe, comfortable and support the safety of both victims and helpers.Airway assessment aims to assess whether the airway is patent (loose) or has total or partial obstruction while preserving the cervical spine. It's best to have your friend (nurse) help to maintain the cervical spine. In non -traumatic cases and the victim is unconscious, make a head tilt and chin lift (hyperextension) position, whereas in cases of head to chest trauma you must control or maintain the cervical spine in the head position. Assess the airway by opening the victim's mouth and see: Are there vocalizations, snoring sounds appear; Are there any secretions, blood, vomit; Are there any foreign objects such as broken teeth; Is there soundstridor (obstruction of the tongue). If it is found that the airway is ineffective, take action to clear the airway.Assessment breathing(breathing) is performed after airway assessment. Respiratory assessment is carried out by inspection and palpation. If necessary, auscultation and percussion. Laboratory learning practice supervisor: While in the laboratory, you will be supervised by lecturers, who have work experience of at least 2 years and have received emergency training. 5. Rules of conduct While you are carrying out practical laboratory learning, you must obey the existing rules, including: a. You must obey the regulations that apply in the laboratory room. b. Your attendance must be according to the specified schedule. c. Appear polite and neat, practicum uniform complete with attributes. d. Sign the practicum attendance list (attached) and acknowledge it by the facilitator/person in charge of the laboratory. e.
