In the Age of New Imperialism that began in the 1870s, European states established big empires mainly in Africa. Nations in Europe had an aggressive expansion policy that was motivated by economic needs that were created by the Industrial Revolution. The Economic exploitation in South Africa ultimately brought about more negative effects than positive effects in the long run. Oppression of South Africans under the white supremacy, they received little to no education and hence became unskilled workers. Blacks could only work as servants or forced labor throughout their daily lives. Even though there is improvement in education in the current era, comparing to the Americans, the blacks had lack of education. South Africa had no benefits from the infrastructure that Britain built such as the railways and technology. The mining industry after their independence from Britain did not impact Africans as much as it did to the British. All Africans got was hard working conditions and hours.
Opposers may det that Imperialism created an overall positive impact in the world, but not for South Africans. South Africa suffered and sacrificed many things they once loved. They worked in hard working conditions, were kicked out of their homes, and were separated from their family. Great Britain took over South Africa through Imperialism which led the downfall to happen.
