In the first diagram of a slave ship from the Atlantic slave trade, I see hundreds of people shaded like figures to represent the African American minority. They are seen on this enormous boat to display how they were exported to the Western Hemisphere. The first thing that caught my attention was how big the slave ship was to carry an excessively large number of slaves across the Atlantic. Also, there was almost no space to move freely which exhibited the determination of the slave trade and how serious they were about this idea of trading. This diagram can easily show slaves of African American descent on a boat. The arrangement in FIG. IV was clustered with minimal structure occupying every single space on the boat. In FIG. V the arrangement is aligned and uniform along the edge of the boat, and slaves are adjacent to one another with a few adjustments around the front of the boat due to it being round at the beginning. The physical setting of the slave trade takes place in the Atlantic Ocean. There are a few words displayed on the illustration which is, “store room” while there are letters like g, e, c, a, and I in different parts of the boats as seen in Figure V. I believe this event was made to show how Atlantic slave trade was and what their transportation looked like during the transatlantic times (1770-107). What is occurring in this image is the transportation of a slave to the Americas. From examining this image, one can learn about how the slave trade was vital because they left almost no space on the ship. Also, it can be easily depicted how trade was a popular aspect in the 15th-16th century. The second image viewed, “Benjamin Franklin’s political cartoon calling for colonial unity during the French and Indian War” manifests an abundance of symbolization.

Benjamin Franklin's, cartoon reveals a rattlesnake with its body cut into eight pieces. Below, the dissembled rattlesnake are words that say, “Join, or Die.” and letters outlying the snake’s body. The first thing that grasped my attention was how the snake’s body was lacerated to represent the separation of colonies. In this political cartoon, the object displayed to viewers is the rattlesnake, its arrangement is in segments that are very strategically planned to send a message to colonists. Its physical setting is the French and Indian War (7 years war) which took place on the Ohio River valley. Words seen on this pamphlet contain the saying, “Join, or Die.” and initials for colonies like N. J, N. E, P, M, V, N. C, and S.C. This cartoon was created to spark fear in the ones who were biased/neutral and indecisive due to being afraid of losing resources have. Also, to expand their alliance, “the bigger the better” as some may say. In this picture, the French colony is posing a threat to others who need to come together (unity) to win the war for management of Indian relations and defense against France. The audience they are appealing to is the American colonies. Tools used to create this cartoon were…………… Many lessons can be learned from viewing this political cartoon, so simple, but has complexity in the depth of the hidden symbolism. I can learn how the slogan had an impact on American colonies to become one big alliance to defeat Indians. Also, they utilized tactics to get anyone on their side by all means. Fear played a crucial role in why the nation was where it was and how this event may have cultivated one’s decision on whom they should side with or keep neutral and butt out of this everlasting war because it could affect their colony. Bigger populations don’t always win wars, but military weapons advantages were vital for a win, better armaments and resource availability were key factors in who would win wars. If this image was recreated Today, it would be different by being more vulgar with the message depicting more aggressiveness like blood on the word die to imply the seriousness of them taking matters into their hands, and tyrannizing other colonies that repelled joining them as well as to instill fear upon American colonists if possible. Everything would not always change for instance, the rattlesnake would still be cut into eight pieces and be aligned to the order of the colonies and the proximity of a coastline. This longevity war profoundly shaped America by the British having an excessive amount of territorial gains.

The French and Indian War began in 1754 and ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. The war provided Great Britain enormous territorial gains in North America, but disputes over subsequent frontier policy and paying the war's expenses led to colonial discontent, and ultimately to the American Revolution. British soldiers were aligned uniformly and the leader was in the back, so he didn’t get hurt, while the colonists were scattered and weaponless. The physical setting is a lethal riot on King Street on March 5, 1770, in Boston. The image was made to show this tragic event that occurred on King Street and what the British did. The street brawl is happening between the British and the Colonists leading to the assassination and wounds of a few people. The audience intended for the image is the Patriots.
