It is definitely absurd to think that The Old Testament stories have no significance in modern life. The Old Testament stories can teach us to learn from the mistakes which people have made in the past and can also teach us the right things to do in life. Old Testament stories have significance in modern life because they can teach us the respectful way to use our talents, they can teach us to forgive people and to work your hardest to help others in need. If the Old Testament stories never had significance in modern life, why would they have been created?

The Old Testament stories can teach us to use our talents in a respectful way. Using our talents in a respectful way has significance because it can prevent us from being arrogant and unlikeable and can make us more humble when around one another. This is evident in Genesis 37:1-11, “Listen to this dream that I have dreamed. There we were, binding sheaves in the field. Suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, then your sheaves gathered around it, and bowed down to my sheaf”. This piece of evidence shows how arrogant Joseph was about him acting like he was superior. Then it later said “But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him”. This shows that his father disagreed with what Joseph had told. Using our talents in a respectful way in modern life could help build relationships and also help people who are in need. Therefore, it is now clear that by not using our talents in a respectful way, we can have a negative impact on how people think of us.

They can teach us to forgive people even though they have done terrible things to us. Forgiving people although they have done unacceptable and unforgivable things has significance because it can help us become better people, resolve issues in our relationships and make the people who have offended us feel better and happier. In Genesis 45, Joseph said, “And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves, because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life.” Then later, it said “And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them; and after that his brothers talked to him”. In modern life, forgiving people could make them feel better and relieved because they have been forgiven. Forgiveness also benefits us because it means we can let go of anger and bitterness. Clearly, forgiving people although they have done terrible and unpleasant things to us can resolve issues in our relationships and create peace.

They can teach us to work our hardest to help other people in need. Working our hardest to help other people in need has significance because it can help people get back on their feet and lead them towards success in some instances. This is evident is Genesis 42: “Joseph helped the pharaoh set a plan to protect Egypt from starvation during the famine.” Working our hardest to help others in need in modern life could boost people’s loyalty to us and allow people to think of us as reliable and hard working. It is now clear that working our hardest to help others in need has benefits for us and the people we are helping.

All of the Old Testament stories have a high level of significance included in their stories. The Old Testament stories can all make a huge impact on who we are in our daily lives. The Old Testament stories have a substantial significance in modern life because they can teach us the correct and respectful way to utilize our strengths and talents, they can teach us to forgive people for their wrong acts against us and to give us knowledge to always work our hardest to help others who need help or courage. The Old Testament stories prove to have an enormous amount of significance contained in their stories.
