The movie, Inside Out, is an animated movie. The main character of the movie is an eleven-year-old girl by name Riley. Although Riley is the main character of the movie, her emotions in her head play a significant part in a lot of the things Riley does throughout the movie. Riley’s move from Minnesota to San Francisco is one of the reasons most of the problems in her life started to take place because she really didn't want to go. However, the emotion of joy always wanted to keep Riley happy. All the emotions you could feel live in Riley's head. They controlled her feelings and reactions to a lot of things that went on in her life they are in the “Head Quarters” which is another name for Riley’s brain. The emotions that live inside Riley’s head are fear, anger, joy, sadness, and disgust. The emotion of fear would come into play when Riley was anxious, nervous, and scared of course. One of Riley’s biggest fears is clowns. She was having a peaceful dream until the clown came into play and she jumped up out of her sleep because she was extremely scared. The emotion of anger operated when a lot of things didn’t go the way Riley wanted them to go. Not wanting to be in San Francisco and wanting to go back to Minnesota, Riley acted out of anger; she stole her mother's debit card and planned a trip back home by running away. Joy was the main emotion, she always wanted Riley to be happy. Even when she needed to be sad in order to be happy again. When Riley and her parents first got to the new house, she was sad, first because they weren't in their hometown and also because their furniture and clothes had got lost and it was going to take days for them to get them back. However, Riley had her hockey sticks, something she enjoys doing the most, and bald up a piece of paper to make it from a sad moment to a happy one and that took the family's mind off that and made them happy. Now on to sadness. The emotion of sadness was more so of an outcast the whole movie because joy never wanted Riley to have to experience the other emotions, especially the feeling of being sad. However, in the times' sadness was pushed away she would read books and it helped them to get to and through a lot of the problems toward the end. And they understood that sadness is an emotion and Riley and others are going to experience it. Finally, we have disgust, she came into play when it was things Riley didn't like. When Riley was a baby, she couldn't stand broccoli, like most children growing up.
Since Riley was a baby there have been a lot of things to take place and the process of those memories went in this order. Memory is the persistence of learning over time through the storage and retrieval of information(Myers pg.225). The movie was right about this because when Riley thought there was no way she could play hockey with another team, one of her memories that came back was how good she was and the accomplishment she had as a hockey player. From a little girl up until her continuation of playing the sport. Storage is the retention of encoded information over time(Myers pg.257). When Riley was upset about the moving and their things were lost, his love for hockey came up and she was able to kill the negative vibe with a positive one because she had a memory of what makes her family happy stored in her brain. The movie also had all of Riley's memory stored up, which was her long-term memories, of them. Long-term memory is the relatively permanent and limitless storehouse of the memory system. Includes knowledge, skills, and experiences(Myers pg.257). It was a huge mungas lab of all of Riley’s. However, when it came to those long-term memories when Riley “forgot” something the memory would go to a place called the “Lost Memories”. Instead of being called “Lost Memories” the correct term for them is short-term memory. short term memory is activated memory that holds a few items briefly, such as the seven digits of a phone number while dialing before the information is stored or forgotten(Myers pg.257) there weren't many short-term memories at all in the movie, because everything that happened was lit up and was able to be fixed if needed. Unless it was going into the “Lost Memories”. Then again, Riley's imaginary friend the pink elephant was in the lost memory of the traveler they had created. When Joy and Sadness were sucked up out of headquarters, Joy ended up falling into the lost memories and found them and they came back into life, worked, and got her out of lost memories.

When Riley was in REM Sleep, she had a nightmare of rats, broccoli pizza, bears, and the new house in San Francisco. REM Sleep is rapid eye movement sleep; a recurring sleep stage during which vivid dreams commonly occur. Also known as paradoxical sleep, because the muscles are relaxed (except for minor twitches) but other body systems are active(Myers pg.178). Those are things she wanted to get away from in her sleep, so the constant trying to move on to something else or bring something else into her mind to dream about was pretty present.
All in all, Inside Out, was good at picking out how the brain really operates and wrong with some things. Just know that your emotions don't come from just one part of your brain. The emotion of anger stems from the amygdala. Amygdala is two lima bean-sized neural clusters in the limbic system; linked to emotion(Myers pg.71) Anger and fear are located in the brain, but specifically the Amygdala. Also, remember that one emotion does not control all. Each emotion has its significant reason for happening and it will in due time.
