Have you ever wondered why people have a Loss of Individualism within themselves? Life in all three of these stories is government-controlled by how social ratings control the Loss of Individualism. By the society that everyone lives in, a society where lives are forever lived within Government Control since there is a Loss of Individualism. There are lives where everyone is equal based on their handicap given by the Government Control to where they have the Loss of Individualism within the society.
How has the Loss of Individualism been affected by society and the environment in Lacie’s life? (“Nosedive” clip from Black Mirror) Lacie has become so tied up in her social media liking that she will do anything just to get high-ranking likes on her social page. Lacie wants to express how she truly feels about the world and her anger. When Lacie goes to the cafe and orders a coffee the employee says he has extra cookies and asks Lacie if she wants one. When Lacie says yes, the look on the employee’s face shows that he wants more than a nice thank you. At the cafe, the young man smiles at Lacie to see if she is going to give him a five-star like for him being nice to her. Also, Lacie has been controlled by a government-controlled society that has encouraged society to be controlled by ratings and likes by the nice things people do.

How is Government Control affecting the lives of people and the population culture in 2BRO2B? (“2BRO2B” by Kurt Vonnegut) The painter has decided to call the Federal Bureau of Termination because he doesn’t want to live anymore. As the painter calls the hostess on the phone “All right,” said the painter, “fit me in, if you please.”(“2BRO2B” Vonnegut pg.8) The painter then said his name to the hostess. “Your city thanks you, your country thanks you, your planet thanks you. But the deepest thanks of all is from future generations.” (“2BRO2B” Vonnegut pg.8) In the story “2BRO2B” to leave the earth or want to die you have to schedule an assisted suicide with the Federal Bureau of Termination. It has shown that this society has tried to put things inside people’s heads of what the world should look like. So people have a Loss of Individualism in themselves. They truly don’t know who they are as a person or their purpose on earth. “This child of yours-whichever one you decide to keep, Mr. Wehling,” said Dr. Hitz. Hitz. “He or she is going to live on a happy, roomy, clean, rich planet, thanks to population control. (“2BRO2B” Vonnegut pg.7) Mr. Wehling decides to take his life and three others. Just to make sure that his triplets can be born alive. Also, Wehling took out a revolver and killed Dr. Hitz, and Leora Duncan, and then turned the revolver on himself killing himself, so that his children could be born as the government-controlled society and the population.
Why is the Government controlling putting these devices on people and calling them handicapped which makes them have a Loss of Individualism? In the year 2081 Government Control had everyone wearing devices that made people equal. Where nobody was smarter than anybody else, Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. (“Harrison Bergeron” Vonnegut pg.1) Everyone in the story is “equal” based on handicaps given by the government. This could be physical or mental limitations. (“Harrison Bergeron” Vonnegut pg.1) In this society, Hazel is a regular person, and she thinks like a regular person. But she does it in small split seconds. George and Hazel were watching television, and there were tears on Hazel’s cheeks, but she’d forgotten for the moment what they were about. (“Harrison Bergeron” Vonnegut pg. 1) In this controlled government society, people have allowed the government to take control of them.
Why do we allow the government to have so much control over society? The government has too much control and it’s hard for society to choose from who they are as a person. What they want in life, what they like, and don’t like as a person. They don’t have the opportunity to make their minds up for themselves. The government control has total control of society which has made society have a huge Loss of Individualism within themselves of who they are as a person, and why it’s hard for them to think, or make decisions for themselves on their own without the government having control of them.
