At that time, we were having some family friends who had been a nurse, their character, neatness, respect, manner of approach, and way of communicating with one another makes me have my first passion to become a nurse.
I was opportune to go to one of them at her convenient time to ask her about this course, which she explained to me with the whole of her heart. When she saw my interest in the course, she promised to help me to read nursing as a course at the end of my secondary school level, if only my father will be ready to pay the course fees. Fortunately, my father agreed to train me as a nurse. Some years later, my father passed away before I could finish secondary school. At the end of my secondary school education, although I had admitted to reading nursing as a course, I couldn’t continue my nursing education, because my mother was not having enough money to sponsor my course.
I choose this nursing program because, I enjoy making a difference in people’s lives and I notice that Nursing as a profession can offer a meaningful career, filled with many opportunities, challenges, and rewards. Doing the job will make me the chance to improve the well-being of people from all walks of life.
And as I began to grow up in age, I noticed that Nurses can use the media, relationships with physical, collective political action, and face-to-face discussions as tools for engaging with others in important conversations. And nurses have high-quality healthcare, they can use their knowledge, skills, and collective vision to initiate and champion positive change.
Nursing is all about the patient. It’s a career that will help me to save lives, bring happiness to individuals and their families, and comfort to those in need, for example, mental health, aged care and midwifery, etc.
My greatest motivation to take nursing as a carrier is based on my love for humanity. My love and passion for the poor, less privileged ones in society have given me the inspiration to study this course at a well-recognized university. With my working experience and the research I have made so far through reading different books about nursing, I believe I can make a positive impact.
One of the main reasons for choosing adult nursing as a career is that it offers you a chance to make a difference, a high degree of flexibility, and a career with excellent employment prospects. It is a rewarding career where have a chance to make a positive impact on people’s life

My great ambition is to progress in front-line health care. My next desire and step now is a degree certificate in nursing from a reputable university
Experience relating to my chosen program:
- A. I have worked for some months as a care Assistance.
In my work with this company, I came to notice that, there are many people in the world today, who still need someone who can show love and compassion to them no matter the situation or condition they are passing through. Some of them also need people who can sit with them and keep them company or communicate with them face-to-face and through this process they have a sense of relief from their pain and received joy in their hearts.
- B. Since April 4th, 2017 till now, I’m working as Care Assistance at Bournville Grange Residential Home, private and confidential.
In working with this company, I found out that it is my right to respect a person’s right to confidentiality and to promote and uphold the privacy, dignity, and right of the people who use health and care services.
In my working with this company, I was highly encouraged by the senior carers/ nurses who inspired me with their expertise, pioneering work, and dedication.
Even the patients and my director encouraged me to study my level 2 and 3 NVQ in health care and other health and safety program..
- C. I have worked at Specialist Hospital in Benin City Nigeria, for four years as a clerk, assisting nurses and keeping medical records.

I am currently attending Phemagrace School taking my access course to the nursing program.
Through this program, I was able to learn and understand the concept of the Six Cs of Nursing which stand for the professional commitment to always deliver excellent care. The 6Cs are as follows: care, courage, communication, competence, compassion, and commitment. The concept state that each value of each C is equal, not one is more important than the other. It means the focus must be centered on the patient or clients
Caring defines us and our work, people receiving care expect it to be right for, consistently, throughout every stage of life
In caring as a nurse, the nurse acts as a caregiver by providing patients or clients with the necessary physical needs, which includes doing everything for someone to help the patient with illness prevention. The nurse maintains a patient’s dignity while providing knowledgeable, skilled care.
In this section, I learned about the concept of Holistic care for a patient.
Holistic care means that the whole person is greater than the sum of their parts. This means that Nurses address psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. Nurses perform the role of a caregiver which includes all of the tasks and skills that will associate with Nursing care and it also includes the other elements that make up the whole person. This is a state of equilibrium and balance that must be maintained in the healthcare sector.
Communication is an important element in the field of health care. As a nurse, we must realize that effective communication techniques are very essential in improving the healthcare environment. Lack of effective communication can act as a barrier to the healing process of the patients. The nurse has to communicate effectively with patient and family members as well as other members of the health care team. In addition, the Nurse is responsible for written communication, or patient charting, which is a key component of continuity of care. Listening is also a key factor in communication.
Compassion in health care is very important and it is a fundamental aspect of nursing. This is embedded in nursing professional standards and codes of practice. Through compassion, care is based on empathy, respect, and dignity. However, nurses may experience several challenges in their practice that can hinder their ability to provide compassionate care.
The concept of commitment in nursing, requires you to always put the patients first. This includes working late when someone is sick. We need to build on our commitment to improving the care and experience of our patients, take action to make this vision and strategy a reality for all, and meet the health, care, and support challenges ahead.
Courage: in the healthcare field, courage enables us to do the right thing for the people we care for even when it is not convenient for us to care.

- Wiliness to read and learn
- My great aspiration is to become a certified nurse as a healthcare worker
- I believe through this university program, my dream, and aspiration to become a certified nurse in the field of health will be realized.
