Rice cultivation is an interesting matter that happened many years ago and until this day, we still talk about it. Jo Takasuka was the creator of it. Sadly, he passed away in 1940 living for 75 years he was born in 1865. He was Japanese man that lived in Matsuyama and he ended his rice cultivation business in 1927.
In 1906, rice cultivation had launched. Chinese miners helped by bringing the rice seeds over to Western Australia in the 1850’s. Rice cultivation had started to form in the 20th century sometimes not being fully successful. Jo Takasuka was the first person to plant rice in South-Eastern Australia. He harvested test-pots on his property in 1911. He had very good harvesting going around the 1920’s but he abandoned his enterprise in 1927.

The whole rice cultivation was an economic decision because Jo Takasuka noticed there was no rice farmers in Australia and decided to start one up himself. He further bought land and continued to build up this so-called ‘business’ by himself. He rented a place off of Nyah on the Murray River.
Rice plantations are very common in our days and can be found in many places like the Caribbean and in Africa before it spreads along the rivers of South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia, as well as the Gulf coast of the United States. They are grown in fields, sometimes on people’s properties and sometimes on farms. As long as they have a good harvesting area and decent weather rates, it is very capable to succeed in rice cultivation. Also, irrigation water can come from different places but it is commonly found in groundwater that extracts itself from springs and by using wells. The water can be withdrawn from lakes, rivers or reservoirs.
Rice is a complicated thing to grow. It needs time, effort and good weather. It is known as a tropical plant that belongs in well-treated areas (farms, crops, etc.) In order to keep these plants going the soil needs to have a good water holding capacity and needs to water whether that a human being or a sprinkle. The soil must consist of a silt texture if you are rice farming but for rice cultivation Fertile, riverine alluvial is best.
South Carolina is subtropical, meaning that it has high temperatures and very little winter. Rice cultivation needs warm weather but also a fair amount of water in order to keep growing and keep healthy. During the summer time, they may have storms and rainfall, the storms are not good for the rice but the rainfall can be a huge plus for the farmers. In South Carolina, it has rice fields and have historical and cultural landscapes. Water usage is ridiculous in South Carolina and they are trying many different ways to save water. Some people have even created surveys to help. Water usage is overly used on the crops compared to some of dryland crops.
From many articles I have read, it sounds like rice cultivation was endangering because it makes us have droughts and farmers and people were severely concerned. The Australian rice industry is opportunistic with the area planted varying significantly from season to season depending on water allocations. Rice cultivation also made the orange farmers go bankrupt due to lack of water.
There are many advantages and disadvantages that come along with rice cultivation/farming. The main advantage is the fact that now we citizens of Australia have rice but the disadvantage would be the droughts.
In conclusion, I believe that rice cultivation should be discontinued due to the fact that we need to extinct droughts as much as possible and rice cultivation isn’t helping in that manner. I feel as though we should import it from other countries.
