The word Hijrah in the Quran is used for making people realize the sense of departure, abandonment or boycott. This generally means the idea of leaving something behind, which can be physical or mentally., of an existing unwanted state for something better. The prophet’s migration to madinah played a huge role in uniting the faith of people of Islam. Hijrah moved the center stage of events from mecca and madinah and marked a turning point in the eventual success of Islam. It was also a test of devotion to Islam, indicating willingness to endure all suffering caused by the movement to a new locale for the sake of protecting one’s life and faith. Physically, Hijrah was just a journey between two cities that were located 200 miles apart, but it marked a beginning of a new era, a culture and a history for the whole mankind. Islam progressed not only from the physical hijrah, but because Muslims took hijrah seriously in all its aspects and dimensions.
The migration of prophet muhammad in 622 CE from mecca to madinah is not limited to only Muslims or only Islam. The hijrah had obviously reshaped the arab peninsula(politically and socially) but it had also managed to impact civilizations all around the world. There were many ways in which hijrah affected people and its surroundings. Islam had completely transformed its image to a comprehensive religion. People were willing to understand that Islam was a way of life and not just an act of worship. One of many reasons the hijrah became a necessity was because early muslims were tortured and killed for supporting the prophet. They were always surrounded by enemies particularly the Quraysh tribe. That's why hijrah helped people who believed strongly in islam to have a new direction in their life. They believed that if the migration was successful, Islam can drive itself to a very powerful force during that time, and it did. From being a simple Islamic group of believers, to being the Islamic nation. This(after migration) was an organized Islamic state, with a central leadership and other organizations. This is where the Muslim State began reaching out to Persia, Egypt, and the Byzantine Empire.

Hijrah sparked the light of hope in the hearts of the early Muslims who set a shining example for all Muslims, in every generation, to copy. Keep in mind that hijirah was not meant to find a comfortable place to live in where people would relax. Instead, it was a search for a surrounding more favorable for Isam to grow in. Prophet made sure of that. As soon as they completed the migration, Prophet undertook a commitment to establish a faithful and strong society. I feel that this is one of many lessons you can learn from hijrah. Prophet started and completed the working of Masjids, he started building relations between muslims and people of madina, he established a water system in the city which also made the agriculture business grow to the next level. One of the major things that happened in madina after the migration was the establishment of Law and order. Madina became the safest city in the world. The reason i am stating all this is to show that the hijrah teached that wherever muslims go, they should bring goodness to that land. It was prophet’s goal that Muslims should work for both moral and material goodness of the society and should be considered as good people all around the world.
Many muslim scholars at that time believed that hijrah was advisable, even from Islamic lands, if it meant escape from an environment of oppression, denial of freedom of conscience, an indulgence in sin. The people had to leave behind their homes, family, friends and belongings. To take a challenge of that kind was an act of faith the demanded strength. This is the reason why later, hijrah was made into an obligation and no longer a mere expression of individual freedom. The major message one can take from understanding the process of migration or hijrah is that it was a transformation, both inner and outer, for muslims in the context of both religion and getting away from unacceptable conditions, not undermining the symbolic refusal to lose hope in the face of persecution. The moral of hijrah is that religious persecution is a violation of religious freedom.
When we say Hijrah as an institution, it must be equipped by all aspects of civilization importance such as social, cultural, intellectual to build the ideology of Islam and Muslim Ummah. After Prophet Muhammad Hijrah to Madinah, he establishes a strong Islamic Institution within that area. It is where you can see the muamalah between a buyer and a seller in which riba‟ is totally prohibited, Prophet Muhammad made a good example as a politician.
He managed to establish a good and strong reputation within international affairs. He was also encouraging people of Madinah to educate themselves with knowledge so that they could counting, reading and writing which is the basic requirement in acquiring knowledge during that time. Thus, the establishment of educational institution was made.Besides, a historical event in Islamic era is the most important chapter in history of mankind.During pre-Hijrah, everything is based on locality such as local cultures, local ideologies, local religions and local civilizations. By contrast, in post-Hijrah period it is all related on Universalism in every aspects of human life. (Mankind! We created you from a male and female, and made you into peoples and tribes so that you might come to know each other. The noblest among you in God's sight is that one of you who best performs his duty. God is All-Knowing, All-Aware.) (The Qur'an , 49:13).
I can safely conclude that Hijrah played a huge role in the success of Islam around the world. I have discussed what hijrah is, why was there such massive importance for hijrah to take place, the spread of Islam because of hijrah, and the steps prophet took to make it a successful one.
