The history of traditional music cannot be traced as music has evolved in different time period in different countries. However, until 1800 the classical music was dominated. The music taste changes according to the change in the generation. The older generation usually preferred the classical music but few youth of present generation still prefers the classical music which is very rare, (Smith, 2008).

The modern music begins from the early 20th century. The modern music broke down the traditional visual conventions, especially due to the modernization and the upcoming of mass-media. The most of the modern generation prefers the modern music such as rock, hip-pop and those which brings enjoyment to the youths and only few of the modern generation youth prefers classical music, (Smith, 2008).

The youth have different music taste and according to this, a survey was conducted to find out which type of music does the youth prefer. In the article, 16000 UK undergraduates and sixth formers youths were surveyed where 17% preferred Jazz and 15% preferred classical music. 66% of the youths preferred pop and 45% of the youth preferred hip-pop. The 44% of the youth preferred rhythm and blues. 14% of the youths listen to techno, 15% listens to drum bass and 9% listens to heavy metal, (Roberts, 2018).

This data shows that maximum of the youths prefers modern music than the traditional music. This can be due to the generation change around the world. Due to the invention of modern music, the youths have also been influenced by the modernization so they prefer the use of modern stuffs. I thought the youths prefer the modern music but after doing the research on the youth preference on traditional or modern music, I came to know that the few of new generation still prefers the traditional music though most of the youths prefer modern music. The youths have their own preferences over music which varies from individuals to individuals.

Opportunities

Youth now days, beside education, they are also involved in musical activities depending upon their passion and knowledge about music. One can make their profession by playing music which may not provide proper opportunities (platform) or employment. Bhutan in a verge of globalization, music industry is at the peak of its growth. According to Kinley choki, there is increase in the opportunities for local band of Thimphu (Choki, 2018). In addition to this, she also argues that most of the local bands perform at the local pubs, resort, and in both national and international events. Before this Mojo Park was the only entertainer musical band to perform in there club. This indicates that youth in Bhutan can take music as their profession as there is increase in the opportunities. Tandin Wangchuk, a member of music band called Misty Terrace is one of the popular youth with his incredible music band. On 17 December with the celebration 111 national day, he was given opportunity to go to Perth, Australia to perform a show to Bhutanese who lived there.

Likewise, if music bands and artist are not given international opportunities, many youth will leave this profession and choose other profession (Choki, 2018). Bhutanese music industries are trying their best to create platform like Bhutan Art Flim industry (BAF) in giving opportunities to many music artists to perform in international events. Kinley Choki claims that making living out of music in Bhutan would be difficult to sustain their life in a long run (Choki, 2018). The monetary value of Bhutanese music artists are less to make their living. Although Bhutanese musical artist and bands are aware of the lack of opportunities, they are working hard to improve their skill and experience.

According to Robert Gerardi, there are almost 250 million people with their own T.V show and almost everyone involved in music business (Gerardi, 2002). He argues that “most of the people only see the tip of iceberg” (Gerardi, 2002). Music career is a network of exciting and lucrative career that seldom gets attention. Taking music as profession is not bad, but it takes hard work and talent to make success come true. Talent alone is not enough to succeed in music career; one should be competitive in achieving their goal. The key to success is often obstructed by the concept of rejection. One may face rejection in their career and if you let it soak and take it personally, it can destroy you as an artist and also as a person. One should have confidence in their talent and conviction to go for it.

Robert argues that most the beginner is excellent musicians, but they lack self-motivation (Gerardi, 2002). They tend to wait for opportunity to come and discover them but one should strive for opportunity. Opportunities in music is diverse and compelling, because it would be injustice to have only one objective. One should be willing to step on other music related opportunities to stay in this bonded passion. Music learning should begin its profession by making flexible and realistic plan.

Inspiration

Music plays a vital part within the socialization of children and adolescents. Tuning in to well known music is considered by society to be a portion of developing up. Music gives amusement and diversion from issues and serves as a way to soothe pressure and boredom. A few ponders have detailed that teenagers utilize well known music to deal with forlornness and to require control of their passionate status or mood. Music moreover can give a foundation for sentiment and serve as the premise for setting up connections in different settings. Adolescents utilize music in their handle of personality formation, and their music inclination gives them a implies to attain gather character and integration into the youth culture. A few creators have recommended that well known music gives young people with the implies to resolve oblivious clashes related to their specific formative arrange which their music inclination might reflect the level of turmoil of this arrange. (Pediatrics)

Music has many outlooks for everyone. For me music is my mood maker. Other people would have different way to look at music. For e.g. People listen to music to escape the reality, when they are sad or happy, when they need to calm themselves. It is not just music which is just played or for entertainment basis but is a way to express oneself. (How Music Inspires Us As Individuals , 2018)The power of music to change lives is countless. Recent neurological research has shown that music education can provide children with tremendous cognitive benefits that follow them far outside the realm of music. Music can also be a tremendous resource in addressing poverty and closing the achievement gap. But too often it's seen as little more than a diversion, an expensive hobby that people in struggling communities cannot enjoy. Nothing could be further from the truth — nowhere is music more necessary. (Music Offers Many Cognitive, Emotional and Physical Benefits to Young and Old, 2018)

Melodic tastes alter with each era. Exceptionally regularly, parents and elderly don’t get it melodic inclinations of their children and may indeed contend with them over tuning in to certain classes and vocalists or groups. Back at the starting of the 20th century it clearly was jazz picking up objection of those times’ guardians; this destiny was afterward shared by rock-n-roll and punk. Nowadays, most petulant sorts are assumed to be overwhelming metal, difficult shake, and no-nonsense rap. Agreeing to numerous thinks about, they may possibly have the foremost negative impact on youngsters. Flawed or express verses and messages of these sorts, at the side design (music recordings) containing damaging subjects are especially disturbing. (How does music affect teenagers , 2016)

It’s not fundamental to end up a specialist or design, but one can seek after their carrier through music either by singing or moving there are numerous cases over the world for e.g. Justin Bieber got to be so celebrated artist in his early high school which rouses and one of the top picks artists of numerous adolescents. Not as it were him but numerous more artists like Shawn Mendes, Billie eilish , BTS etc. Music moreover gives a great stage to seek after ones carrier in the event that one includes an intrigued in it.

Numerous youth attempt to imitate their favourite music artists’ fashion by wearing same dress as stars wear on the arrange, all through music recordings or in existence. There are numerous distinctive illustrations of how celebrities influenced design. For example, Madonna who affected patterns for meager clothing in 90’s, or well known hip-hop craftsmen spreading questionable drift for wearing drooping pants. Most frequently youths chose that kind of music that reflects their current disposition and state of being. In reality, children acknowledge likings and feelings of vocalists through their music and lyrics. As said over, rap or overwhelming metal melodies, and particularly music recordings may lead to youths acting more forcefully towards individuals around and ladies in specific. A few may indeed attempt drugs or liquor since their favourite tunes keep glamorizing it or the artists themselves utilize substances in genuine life. (How does music affect teenagers , 2016)

I would conclude it by saying music is not only for entertainment but inspires many youths like us and it is really important part of life which has great impact on the youths who loves music.

Music and Identity

Music is essential to youth culture. If a parent of adolescent cannot tell the difference two genres, then, parents may find it difficult to discuss meaning of life with their children. These days, at an adolescent party, the key question is not what you do but rather what you listen to. Though music does not have enormous negative effects, it does worry some parents who view it as dangerous for youth, because of the violence, racism and challenge to authority in some popular lyrics and videos. Often times, teenagers argue that music is “just music “, they don’t take into account that humans habitually learn or build their personalities through such equipment and it is said that music is much more influential than television, movies or computers, (O'Toole, 1997).

Adolescents tend to devote more of their time to music than on other activities. They not only use music to control their mood but also to improve emotional state. Music styles and preferences of individual define them as a person, they tend to act and dress accordingly. Male youths with long hair are typically influenced by their interest in heavy metal (rock music), wearing baggy clothes influenced by hip hop music and so on. Through their music preference, they express their self-concept and make judgments for others as well. The social bond among adolescents who have the same interest in particular genre is stronger, (Hargreaves, 2006). Children’s who are more into rap artist such as Eminem or Cardi B think of themselves in different terms and associate with different groups than the ones who prefer to listen to pop sound artist like Mariah Carey. It is said that adolescents evaluate their physical attractiveness and self-esteem by comparing themselves to their favorite artist. Not only that, but their favorite artist may also serve as their role models and influence their social learning or upbringing, (Miranda, 2012).

Music does not only shape ones attitude and personality but also gives the identity of a musician or an artist. Often times, parents of teenagers tend to go against particular music genre, however, not every music is or have a negative impact on a person who is still growing. Music can be a source where adolescents can explore their inner selves, meet people of common interest and possibly have artistic careers in the future, (Miranda, 2012).

Music and socialization

Music plays an important role in the socialization of children and youth. Music and songs are present almost everywhere, which are easily accessible through the radio, various recordings, the Internet, and new technologies, allowing youths to hear it in diverse settings and situations, whether they are alone or with friends. Parents often are unaware of the lyrics to which their children are listening because of the increasing use of downloaded music and headphones. While most people are unaware of the positive impact of music on youth (children and adolescent), there are also people who believes that music is quite essential to live in this contemporary world regardless of what other might says. According to (Leming, 1987), the socialization of youth is a perennial and necessary concern of adult members of the society. The very stability and existence of any society depends in large measures on the degree to which that society is able to install in youth the shared norms and values of existing adult society. Popular music is a large socialising agent of self-identity during the crucial teenage years, (UNIVERSITY OF YORK, 2013).

Families also plays an important role in social and emotional development of youth, and most families engage in musical activities together, such as listening to music or talking about their favourite songs. However, empirical evidence of the positive effects of musical family rituals on social cohesion and emotional well-being is scarce, (Abubakar, 2014). If adolescent and youth are more engage in music along with family members they build up their personality and knows what they want to do in their future with support from the families. Music plays an important role as an agent of socialization because its shows ones personality, change the perceptions of youth and help them cope up with growing and changing as a person. Music carries life lessons and socialization experiences that show what life can be like in a more fantasy way. Music as an agent of socialization is responsible for transferring the rules, expectations, norms, values, and folkways of a given social order. In advanced capitalist society, the principle agents of socialization include the family, the media, the school system, religious and spiritual institutions, and peer groups, but for the youth it has been music regardless of their surroundings (bartleby research).

Music leads to socialization of the youth but we cannot ignore the negative socialization on youth’s behaviour. Research on music and youth has showed that it has effects on schoolwork, interaction with others, change in mood and how it lead to negative conducts particularly on their behaviour. The effect that music has on children's and adolescents' behaviour and emotions is of serious concern. Most of the lyrics are in references to drugs, sex, and violence over the years, particularly in certain genres. Since youth have taste on their preference on music, most of the youth are prone to these negative influences of the music and because of this youth are expose to violence, sexual messages, sexual harassments and use of substances. . Paediatricians and parents should be aware of this information. Furthermore, with the evidence portrayed in these studies, it is essential for paediatricians and parents to take a stand regarding music lyrics, (PEDIATRICS, 2009).
