Being in a place one has never visited before but at the same time yearning to visit can cause two things to happen: the person can be fascinated by the place because it meets or exceeds his/her expectations. The individual could also be disappointed if the place is not as he/she expected. New York City prompted the former to happen to me, the fascination the city caused was undeniable. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever laid my eyes on. Thus, in this essay, I explain why I love it so much.
New York City is the most popular cities in the world. The city has managed to acquire several nicknames, including 'The City That Never Sleeps', 'The City So Nice They Named It Twice', 'Gotham', 'The Big Apple', and most fascinating of all the nickname is 'The Capital of the World'. The last nickname immediately tells a person that the city is a big deal not only to America but to the rest of the world.

The first and most noticeable thing about New York City is the smell of the subway. It is difficult to describe the smell, it is a mixture of a million things. This is because the subway is known to be a rough place in New York City, thus the smell is probably a mixture of urine, sweat, food, and clothing from the different stores, and also the mixture of varied items from the streets.
Venturing into the city through the upper west side, one is hit with all kinds of sounds. The city is hardly quiet. There is always someone laughing, music from the streets and from the different apartments, a child laughing or a toddler screaming. Ambulance sirens, taxi drivers, ice cream trucks, and the random sounds of business people shouting in an attempt to attract customers.
New York City is always crowded, and therefore one’s senses are always alive. You are always aware of the space or the lack of space around you. Because you are always bombarding one another. One’s emotions are also alive and active. You feel disgusted by the things you get in contact with, you laugh because something funny is happening. One is constantly happy, constantly pacing, and aware of his/her surrounding. New York City, a city that is always alive.
My favorite place in New York City was Central Park. This is because it is a place that is very common and popular in movies. Most movies base their crimes in Central Park or there is always something going on in this park. However, in person, the park presents a peaceful place where one can just sit and enjoy the breeze as they meditate. The park is mostly green throughout the year, except in winter when it is covered in snow. The artificial lakes and streams are always flowing in unison, causing a cooling effect on the surrounding. The place is designed in a way that different means of transportation can be used. Pedestrians can easily stride, and horseback riders and vehicles can also easily maneuver in the place. The trees fit perfectly into the place, revealing the beautifully vegetated ground. The pathways have benches that are shagged by the beautifully placed planted trees. The sky illuminates the place, especially during summer, and all the features of the park become alive and in turn breathe more life to the people fond of the park.
Lastly, although the city is packed and filled with people and is almost crowded, people flock to New York City from all over the world for a good course. There is always something going on in this city, it is hardly quiet. There are always concerts, movies being shot in the streets, music videos, businesses, and just random people walking around to tour the place and experience the fascination. These random people include people from all over the world, meaning people of all races, and they all blend in so perfectly. This tells that New York City is a town that embraces diversity. There is rarely discrimination in the place, everyone interacts so freely, and one could feel the freedom in the air. People are allowed to walk everywhere, the restaurants are limitless, and al all the apartments have elevators, meaning they are almost similar and therefore very affordable. The diversity of things, people, and availability of the essentials in this city earned it the name, 'The Big Apple', majorly because it has so much to offer.
