A vaccine is a biological preparation that provides active acquired immunity to a particular infectious or communicable disease. (en.wikipedia.org). A vaccine generally contains an agent that resembles a disease-causing microorganism and is regularly made from weakened or dead forms of the microbe, its toxin, or one of its ground proteins. (en.Wikipedia.org). Many diseases are prevented through the use of vaccines. Some of these diseases include; cholera, rubella, COVID-19, pneumonia, influenza, tetanus, and many others.
COVID-19 is a dangerous communicable disease that can cause death to the elderly and underlying conditions and even the young and healthy people in society. The COVID-19 pandemic is also known as the coronavirus pandemic. COVID-19 is transmitted from person to person through the droplets of an infected person's cough, sneeze, and when the person breathes out. The virus cannot stay in the atmosphere for long, hence it settles on surfaces for a period of time. One can get infected with the virus by inhaling the air of an affected person with the virus. A person can also contract the virus when he touches surfaces of equipment or tools that have been contaminated with the virus and use the same hands to touch the eyes, mouth, or nose afterward.
COVID-19 vaccines are taken to help reduce the risk of getting COVID-19. There are so many reasons why it is necessary to take the COVID-19 vaccine. The subsequent paragraphs are going to provide detailed explanations of the reasons why it is necessary for the COVID-19 vaccine to be taken.
Firstly, the COVID-19 vaccine is necessary because it helps build protection against the virus. COVID-19 is a terrifying and dangerous communicable disease. The virus affects the respiratory organ of the human system. 'The COVID-19 vaccine when taken into the body contains inactive parts of a particular organism (antigens) that triggers an immune response within the body system'. (www.who.int). If a person gets vaccinated, he protects himself and sometimes others, because, he has immunity and the virus cannot spread out to other parts of his body. Due to this, it would not spread to others. Getting protected through the vaccine will mean that, there will be a reduction in the risk of or possibility of spreading the virus and its outcomes or effects.
Again, taking the COVID-19 vaccine is necessary because it will help eradicate the coronavirus pandemic. Eradication of a disease or virus means, permanently reducing the rate of an infectious disease's existence to zero in the world. The positive impact of COVID-19 vaccines on the COVID-19 pandemic will be determined by factors such as the effectiveness of the vaccine. Getting vaccinated and also following the protocols are the best ways to protect ourselves from the disease. When we take in the vaccine, we will help stop the spread of the disease in our societies and the country as a whole, and by adhering to all the safety protocols (social distancing, wearing a nose mask, washing hands, and using sanitizers) effectively and efficiently, the pandemic could be eradicated.
Lastly, COVID-19 vaccines are necessary to be taken because they will help reduce the cost and pressure on the Government purse. For instance, COVID-19 is a health issue that Governments all over the globe were not prepared for or did not see it coming, as a result, it has brought a lot of costs and damage to Governments across the world. This puts pressure on their budgets.
The Government of Ghana, for instance, had to train contact tracers who go around to fish out the people who had come in contact with an infected person. The Government also had to build isolation centers for the people who were suspected to have had the virus and also the migrants to Ghana, they provided them with food and other medications. More health facilities had to be built in order to accommodate the infected people.
During the insert of the virus, the Government had to provide various health centers, schools, and other institutions with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hand sanitizers, liquid soaps, Veronica cans, nose masks, and tissue papers. How to transport all these were at the cost of the government. During the lockdown as a result of COVID-19, the Government had to provide food, water, and electricity for the deprived people in society. All these were done at the cost of the Government.
When we take the vaccine, the capital that would be used on all these could be saved and used for paying loans and providing relief for businesses and households.
In conclusion, the COVID-19 vaccine's ability to build immunity towards subsequent contractions, help to alleviate the pandemic globally, and take a huge burden off the Government purse are some cogent reasons why I support the necessity for us to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
