Leadership: A Leadership expert Warren Bennis stated, “Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality”. Great leaders possess dazzling social intelligence, a zest for change, and above all they can prioritize their work that truly merits attention (PT). Furthermore, we can also state that Leadership is the process of influencing the behavior, attitudes, activities, and efforts of an individual or a group to achieve a common goal. There are 9 Leadership styles all having specific pros and cons (Week 2, Class Presentation Slide 4-8). The style that I believe suits me best is Autocratic Leadership.

Autocratic Leadership: Kurt Lewin created the autocratic leadership style theory in 1939 while helping business leaders better understand their natural leadership style (SBC). In this style, Leader takes the responsibility for project outcomes as well as for getting things done efficiently and effectively (Week 2, Class Presentation Slide-9). According to economic times, Autocratic leadership is a management style wherein one person controls all the decisions and takes very little input from other group members. Autocratic leaders make choices or decisions based on their own beliefs and do not involve others in their suggestions or advice (ET).

Personal Experience: In my past work experience when I worked as Director of Operations for a Flooring Company, I believe my way of getting things done was Autocratic and I found it very effective. After gaining product knowledge for the company, I started to handle a team of 10-15 people which included 3 Supervisor, 2 Sales Associates, and Masons. It was an experience of 10 months where my team completed 15 projects under my leadership. After researching this style I found that the challenges faced by me as a leader had similarities with the disadvantages of autocratic leadership. For instance, there were times when my team would not start work until I arrived at the Project Site because they did not want to be blamed if something went wrong, Hence, creating a system of dependency.

Advantages of Autocratic Leadership Style:

Clear Vision: The autocratic chief is in control, and its pioneer's vision is handed off to representatives. There is no disarray about the bearing of the organization. Its main goal and vision are clear. Not at all like law-based style where the chief requests contributions from the group that could sloppy the vision and question who is in control. (SBC)

Everyone Knows Expectations: In an organization with an autocratic leader the vision is obviously clarified and continually passed on, and workers have clear desires set by the dictatorial pioneer. While this could prompt an unpleasant workplace where individuals are worried that poor execution will prompt rejection, it has leeway. Consider the business group that must hit certain numbers to produce the incomes required to stay with the gainful. Those are objectives that must be met (SBC)
