Abstract
Interior design and decorating styles goes hand in hand. Where there is interior design, there comes decorating styles as well. Decorating styles have a very vital role to play in the design industry. Without having any style to decorate, any design, be it very elegant or richly schemed, becomes dull and boring. In this report, we will discuss about the various styles to decorate, including both the ones in trend and out of trend. If we talk about the history of these styles, then it goes way back in time as the birth of human beings on the planet earth. Many of the styles which were quite trendy in the time zone of Middle Age, are either vanished from the scene or very rare to be seen. About Victorian Style, this style was technically came into being in Victorian era by none other than Queen Victoria herself. There are many other decorating styles which were very trendy in older times and surprisingly, are still trendy and catchy to behold. These styles include Eclecticism or the Eclectic style, which was earlier started in 1980s timeline but in 2019, is still min trend. Many styles of decorating wallpapers which were used way back in time, are still very much in use. Apart from these styles, there are many other decorating styles which with the change in time, are either moved out of the scene or are still able to maintain their place in design industry. We will discuss them all in this report.
Introduction
Style, in simple words is something that gets your attention straight away, firstly because you want to make sure that you have it, and secondly, you want to make sure that you keep it. Style can either be craved or achieved or in some cases, it comes naturally. When we talk about Interior design, then style in relation to interior design can mean many things but overall it sums up the ability to be able to create an interior that possess a “good taste” and flows within the home in a smooth pattern. Style is harmonious, well balanced, comfortable, practical, aesthetically pleasing to the eye and an overall creation that is memorable. Styles were created by forms of decoration like art Nouveau and Rococo, furniture makers also set up styles like Sheraton and Chippendale. Then there are styles set up on where you live like urban style and country style and popular historic eras of change, hi-tech, art deco and minimalism, and if all else fails there is Eclectic. Also, there comes a lot many styles which are based on provincial formulas, such as, English Country and French taste. These styles possess some parameters that helps to define them briefly. After that, there comes a wide range of styles that were originated in periodical timelines like, Victorian, Gothic and Louis XV. Now, we will discuss about how a style can be found? To find a style is as much a daunting process as to scheming colors. If you are decorating for yourself, then it is way more an easier task to understand a style as it comes from within, the only thing difficult enough to handle is to understand the inner abilities. The easiest of all ways to look for a style to comprehend is to flick through the pages of a magazine or to visit a store, where a certain fabric or decorative item is a must thing to hold your attention. For Example, If a person is having a home décor designed in Georgian Style, then that person cannot restyle the décor in that very same pattern but can make a bit of changes here and there. Different environments have different styles, depending upon the circumstances and nature of décor. For instance, Country homes need a practical style with a both rural and country touch, solid functional furniture, easy care floors, warm and inviting fabrics, simple decorations and vice versa. Now, moving on to the various types of decorating styles other than periodical include Transitional Style, Modernism,, South-Western Style, Mid-Century Style, and many more. Many Interior designers and decorators have done a lot of prominent work in the field of Interior design for creating various decorating styles, but seven among many held a strong position in the history. Among them, the prominent figures include, ELSIE DE WOLF, who is regarded as the very first Interior designer in American history, JEAN-MICHEL FRANK, SISTER PARISH, ALBERT HADLEY, who is known as the father of transitional Interior design, DOROTHY DRAPER, who is known as the “COCO CHANEL” of decorating world, DAVID HICKS, and BILLY BALDWIN.

Gthic style (1152-1500):
Gothic style is said to be the most popular style during the time zone of middle ages. It started back in 1152 and remains intact until 1500. The characteristics which differentiate the said style from the rest include usage of rich color combinations and the touch of fantasy in both architecture and décor. Gothic style brings to the surroundings, a sense of luxury and grandeur. Gothic style was basically discovered by the Europeans, who were all eager to decorate their residences in colors after the downfall of dark ages. Rococo style (1700-1780):
The style was originated in Paris in 1700 and remains on peak until 1780 or during 18th century. . Nature has a great influence on rococo architecture and design. Rococo style developed first in the decorative arts and interior design, and later on, it cast its influence on architecture, sculpture, theater design, painting, and music. Rococo style is characterized by elegant designs, curvy textures, elaborate ornamentation, asymmetrical values, pastel color palette, and curved or serpentine lines. Jean-Antoine Watteau is said to be the famous artist associated with rococo style of decoration. The color palette used to scheme rococo designed styles include softer and paler ones as compared to the rich primary ones with a touch of Baroque tastes. Rococo is a style most widely used in French art and interior design.
Georgian style (1714-1837):
The Georgian period covered the years from 1714 to 1837, when there were four consecutive King Georges on the throne. Georgian architecture and interiors were known for their elegance and lightness of touch. Georgian style includes a symmetry in all its designs and the presence of an airy softness is what made the said style, a popular one during the reign of Georgian kings. The colors used to scheme designs and patterns related to Georgian style include all the soft textural colors with a slight touch of darkish tints but all in all, the softness remains constant. Robert Adam, a British architect as well as a designer is the one famous artist who left a great influence on Georgian style. Kenwood house is the finest example which reflects the Georgian style of decoration.
Victorian style (1837-1901):
Victorian interior design contains elements of various periods mixed in it along with the touch of eclecticism. It also contains a combination of Gothic and Rococo in it, The said style was invented by Queen Victoria herself and that is why, known as Victorian style. The important features of it include plushy textural designs and various decorative ornamentations. According to a survey report by Britannica, the said style was quite famous in its era but is not much in demand when it comes to 21st century. William Morris, an English artist and a designer is said to have a great influence on Victorian designs. This style of decorating interiors was long got rejected by Edith Wharton.
Art nouveau (1880-1910):
This art was basically came into existence from Paris in France, and later on gets widely famous in London as well after a short while of time. Nature has a great influence on this art. This art was highly famous because of symmetrical patterns present in its all designs but according to the previous reports and research, the nouveau art gets out of the scene after 1910. Charles Rennie Mackintosh, a famous Scottish artist and a designer is said to have a great influence on the said art. Though the art is no more in use but the influential romantic style of Mackintosh is still widely in use.
Eclectic style
This style came into being during the early 1900s. This style includes the harmony among many juxtaposing designs and patterns. This style creates a beautiful synchronization among colors and textures by adding them freely and beautifully to create a catchy interior. As long as the history of this design goes back in time, the said design is very much in demand in the modern era due to its fabulous quality of creating vibrant designs and art.
Bauhaus style (1920-1934):
Bauhaus Style was founded by German architect, Walter Bauhaus, who also created the Bauhaus school of art and design in Weimar Germany. Scandinavian Modern
This style highlights the virtues of beautifully designed, practical objects that are both easily affordable and accessible, which is why, Scandinavian style is still popular to the day. Belonging to the school of modernism, Scandinavian interior design is a design movement characterized by a focus on functionalism and simplicity. It also includes the use of natural materials, such as leather, wood, and hemp. Also, a Scandinavian interior design is often influenced by nature, which contains abstractions, natural shapes and elements to combine with each other to form a beautiful output.
Post-modernism
This design is said to be born as a challenge the modernism of interior design. One of its main figures was Italian architect and designer, Ettore Sottsass, with his signature playful shapes, abstract prints, and powerful color stories. This style of décor is very much in use, when it comes to modern era and is widely applicable to the subjects related to interiors.
Conclusion
From our report, we conclude that, only the styles which are still alive or in use are the ones which contains an element of modernism to their elegance or simplicity. It is also concluded that many of the older styles are still in use but only because of either their nature or vibrancy that helps them to survive in the era of modernism.
Recommendation
From our conclusion, we recommend that only the ones of the styles, which are specifically alive or available must be used. Example of such include the use of wallpapers, be it printed or geometric, can be used as they are still in demand and most probably, will be available in future eras as well.
