When considering healthcare, does the public believe what is the future, for example, new medical technology and the effect it will make, or does the public think about the past and the information that specialists know and gained from the books? A few doctors depend on the books, and others need technology to ensure they are doing everything right. Medical technology is utilized in all healthcare, from mental to physical, it can even be used with regard to sickness and illnesses. It is anything but difficult to state that medical technology is used from multiple points of view today and is to be further developed in the future. In any case, would specialists be able to depend on such technology to analyze patients?

Healthcare is the area concerned with the upkeep or redevelopment of the health of the human body or mind. Each patient in the healthcare system has individual unique needs that physicians will progressively work with, try to understand, and cure. The patient typically gets to choose whom they will work one on one with to help the body heal, that physician might even recommend more advanced and knowledgeable personnel. It is essential to have access to quality healthcare because citizens of this country need to maintain one’s health. By keeping the family’s well-being, it helps prevent the mass spread of disease and other outbreaks. When at the physician’s office, the patient should always trust the doctor, being that they also evaluate their information with technology. They have plenty of practice with medical technology by using it with daily exercises and classes explicitly made for them.

Physicians rely on medical technology more and more each day. Medical technology is helping to prevent, diagnose, monitor, and treat patients and their well-being. It helps identify specific diseases and diagnoses, not only just the basics of it but in a more advanced way. Coming from a physical therapist, Luara Lee, medical technology is helpful to have; it just takes more time. Physicians around the world are doing fewer physical examinations technique due to their being technology examinations that are a little bit more accurate. Sometimes medical technology can make mistakes, and at that point, the doctor can take over to diagnose the patient themselves. Some doctors, typically older ones, find it just as easy to do it themselves by using the knowledge that they learned from books in college, while others, younger ones, may prefer technology. Although medical technology does help transport a patient's information from one facility to another.

Not only does medical technology help transport a patient's records to other facilities, but it also allows them to be shared with them as a patient. In the medical field, there is an oath called HIPPA that is required for all hospitals and healthcare in general to use. HIPPA is an oath that says that you, as staff who know the information of a patient, will not share that information or any information that could give the identity away of the patient. HIPPA is the country’s way of giving patients privacy and security.

Not only does our country use security in healthcare, but so does Japan. The Initiative on Rare and Undiagnosed Diseases (IRUD) is one of the programs that studies new undiagnosed diseases that patients have. The IRUD uses medical technology to help share the data they have taken on these diseases with other applications, such as the Japan Agency for Medical Research (AMED) in the Undiagnosed Diseases Program/ Network (UDP/UDN) here in the United States, and the Finding of Rare Disease Genes (FORGE) in Canada, Deciphering Developmental Disorders (DDD) in the United Kingdom. Over the past few years, it has been a goal of several nations to figure out the most undiagnosed diseases. That is why they all have a way in the healthcare system to share all information relating to the specific condition they are studying. How this works is when the patient has no diagnosis, they are referred to one of the research programs that are listed above. From there on out, their research will be available for all the other programs to see so that they can relate specific symptoms and relations to one another, even after the patient is no longer in the research program. But before the patient becomes part of one of the research clinics, they have to fill out several sheets of paperwork saying they are okay with other researchers who can see all their documentation. Sharing documents is an excellent way of keeping personal records and sharing them, although it is not the only way they are kept track of.

When trying to become healthy or simply just trying to keep healthy many times, a person will need help keeping up with all their records and measurements. Today there are several ways to stay healthy: you can either join a gym, and at that gym, you could be in a weight loss competition, or you could be a part of a workout class that meets every Tuesday, or maybe you don’t have the time to be part of something, so big so you choose to download an app that keeps track of your progress. Phones are a very large part of the world today, which makes perfect sense why mobile app designers made apps that help with personal health. These apps might keep track of bodily activity throughout the day, how many hours spent sleeping, and nutrition. The doctor might even suggest using these apps to help keep track of symptoms and possibly help figure out a disease that is unknown.

Keeping track of medical records and doing research on certain diseases and sicknesses is extremely important in the medical field. It is just like when someone says to learn from your mistakes, if you keep the records of all the patients and use them to learn from, then there is a better chance of finding a cure and even diagnosing a patient. Medical technology is impacting these parts of healthcare by making and continuing to make new technology that is helping doctors and specialists find cures to help fight diseases. Not only is it helping to fight diseases, but it is also helping in physical therapy with balance and gait.

When talking about medical technology, you will realize that there is not that much involving physical therapy clinics. They mostly use tools and objects for rehabilitation. Some technology they use is monitors, these monitors help measure balance and gait. As noted by Horak, the use of technology to quantify mobility in physical therapy has lagged behind other rehabilitation specialties, such as cardiac and musculoskeletal specialties. This lag in the use of technology is due to the inherently complex nature of mobility and the lack of simple technology available to therapists to measure and quantify mobility. Measurement of mobility is complex because it includes many different neural control systems associated with balance and gait, as well as adaptive mechanisms for maintaining mobility under altered conditions. Balance and gait need to be evaluated in every patient at risk for a fall, and training in balance and gait is recommended by all national and international expert panels for fall prevention. However, the characterization of balance and gait abnormalities that lead to fall risk is currently highly dependent on examiners’ expertise, as subjective rating scales are typically used in the clinic. Although there are many performance-based, clinical tests of balance and gait, many tests suffer from ceiling effects in individuals who are highly functioning and cannot be adopted because of a lack of expertise to use and interpret them accurately. Physical therapists are now receiving new technology that involves small movement monitors that will be worn on the body. There are mainly two sensors: activity monitors and movement monitors. Both of these monitors obviously monitor motion with sensors, but they are more different than they are alike. Activity monitors are designed to measure the 'quantity of movement', for example how long a person runs. Activity monitors help find dramatic changes in body motion, such as time spent in different postures. These small devices are typically worn on your wrist or around the waist as a belt, they have long battery life that lasts up to 30 days. Activity monitors are actually cheaper than most monitors, such as movement monitors. Movement monitors are similar because they both measure motion, but more specifically, movement monitors measure body motion by characterizing the kinematics and spatiotemporal aspects. They measure postural positions and foot motion, instead of being on the wrist and waist like activity monitors, movement monitors are placed on the ankles and the lumbar. A disadvantage is that the battery life does not last as long, which causes it to have to be charged more often, and they are more expensive than the activity monitors.

Medical technology is not only about helping the patient with finding a cure or helping them heal, it is also about using MRIs or even CT scans to determine an injury or a break. MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, which is a technique used in radiology to get photos of anatomy that are detailed by using radio waves. These can help discover brain tumors, strokes, and infections. CT stands for Computed Tomography, which is a combined set of X-rays taken from all different angles of a certain area. CT scans may help find a fractured bone, cancer, or even heart disease.

Monitors and scanners are a large part of medical technology. Doctors and therapists have to have a way of measuring the patient’s activity at home and finding life-broken bones or critical health problems. Not only is medical technology about diagnosing and keeping track of records but it is also the treatment that is taken by clients and patients. In the mental part of healthcare, there are a few therapeutic technologies that treat mental disorders.

Mental health is an individual's mental state and well-being. A couple of mental health disabilities are bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, major depression, etc. There is not a lot of medical technology in the mental section of healthcare. It is common for clients and patients to use medicine and therapy to heal from these disabilities, but since they are disabilities, there is no way of getting the client or patient back to anywhere near 100 percent of a normal state of mind. Although, there is one treatment that is known to help bipolar disorder and major depression that isn’t very common to use, and that is electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). ECT is a procedure, done under general anesthesia, in which small electric currents are passed through the brain, intentionally triggering a brief seizure. It commonly works after several treatments have been done, although on some people it does not work to what it is expected to.

When one thinks about medical technology and how it impacts healthcare, it is really a personal opinion. Medical technology can really only be separated into two parts, such as diagnosing and treatment, which will hopefully cure or assist the patient and their discomfort for a short period of time. The IRUD utilizes therapeutic innovation to help share the information they have taken on these diseases with different applications. When trying to keep healthy, it is critical to record to see the effect being made. A specialist even uses monitors, MRIs, and other scans to help detect illnesses and injuries. Although medical technology can be easily used for other parts of healthcare, doctors have difficulties using it on the mental part. Mental disorders symptoms are hard to control with medical technology. Even though it does not help with mental disorders, it also does not make them worse. With that being said, it is anything but difficult to state that medical technology is used from multiple points of view today and is to be further developed in the future.
