Mozart’s overture to ‘The Abduction from the Seraglio’ was initially designed as an opera. His opera was first performed in Vienna in July 1782. Mozart wanted the public to appreciate his work. This specific piece showed lots of emotions and depth with the way the instruments were played. There were three acts in this one movement. The abduction from the Seraglio was a 6-minute-long performance.

The instruments that were incorporated were piccolo, drums, cymbals, triangle, and jungle bells. This music was written with lots of fortissimo tempos. The woodwind and percussion instruments are a part of this movement. He did incorporate some Turkish music into this composition. He incorporated this and it gave his music a different trait and made him stand out to the public. The Turkish musical instruments he used were the cymbals, big Turkish drums and piccolo flutes. The time period did contribute to the instruments and how the music was played. With it being during the Classical time period this was when the military greatly influenced music and the public.

In the beginning of his composition, it does begin soft then has a distinct forte then back soft then has a very pleasant fortissimo tempo. The tempo for his piece was adagio-allegro with mildly vivace. The violins play a big role in this part. He really does use all the orchestral instruments and makes them appreciate and flow together. Mozart made that each instrumental group played a role in the abduction from seraglio. There were no vocal ranges in this opera of music. I believe that the sound quality and each instrument did a fantastic job at creating emotion that filled the room.

My favorite part of Mozart: the abduction from the seraglio was the violins and how much emphasis and fortissimo they add to the opera of music. It was elegant to see them be able to perform at a high pace. I like the quick swift rhythm of this movement. I like how each violin can create perfect sounds in one movement. Violins can add such an amazing texture and sound difference to any type of music. It has such a big emotional sense that will take your breath away. I do believe that it makes it stronger. I also do appreciate that he incorporated different styles of music like the Turkish music. I believe that made Mozart stand out to the public and gave him an unusual distinctive trait that the public could appreciate.

I like it but I also do not like that there are no vocal ranges. I appreciate Mozart not bringing them in but it is really hard to distinguish each movement without the vocal range. I think he did a great job at creating a healthy change and balanced switch over to the next movement. I believe that this opera would benefit from a mezzo-soprano or alto singing along just to give it some depth for each movement.
