Free Wi-Fi is a wireless network in public areas like restaurants, store’s airport’s act. Did you know that more than 60% of businesses said that the customers spend more time at your business when free Wi-Fi is offered? Having free and fast Wi-Fi will help customers stay productive and connected while they are at your business place, or store, so they will want to stay longer.
Some pros of having free Wi-Fi are that 3G and 4G data are becoming increasingly Wi-Fi high the implementation will greatly benefit students. While on the go, they will be able to access e-books and online newspapers. Another pro is having it during emergency situations in areas where there is no access and connectivity. Using Internet connectivity will allow users to get in touch with just about anyone. Public Wi-Fi would mean a more technologically advanced area and a better-connected society. Not only that but as a result, it will attract tourists and increase business travel. Travelers will be able to avoid high roaming charges, making the city a more enticing place to visit. Through providing free Wi-Fi, the government helps those with lower incomes and wealth. Not everyone can afford 4G network equipment like a laptop or a mobile phone. Wi-Fi offers access to a wide range of information including health advice, job opportunities, and online education.

A bill pending before an FCC committee is aimed at making Internet access and telephone calls free and easy for millions across the U.S. Having enjoyed the political gauntlet for years already, right approved, the project would face a logistical nightmare. But it seems that conventional mobile network carriers do not take chances. According to an article in the Washington Post, a lobbyist from the $178 billion wireless industry opposed the plan, with AT&T, Apple, T-Mobile, and Qualcomm allegedly the key opponents. For some time, the initiative of the FCC has been in the works-less famously known as the white space plan, but the report of the post highlights intense lobbying efforts by anxious opponents in the wireless industry. That means that somebody takes the attempts of the FCC seriously somewhere. In a nutshell, according to the post, the FCC is planning to expand free Wi-Fi to almost every metropolitan area in the U.S. along with some rural areas. There is not much information as to how this would be done, in addition to allowing local television stations to sell airwave spectrum right blocks to the U.S. government and then use them for public Wi-Fi networks.
Given all the benefits of Wi-Fi for cities and residents, as well as society as a whole, I absolutely believe that the government simply has an obligation to offer free public Wi-Fi to absolutely everyone. After all, this is a matter not only of convenience, but also of extreme necessity in the conditions of a modern modernized and technologically advanced society.
