Everyone has a worldview, weather they realize it or not. The news of Jesus Christ is more than facts to be believed; it is also a life to be lived, a life of righteousness “24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,” Romans 3:24 (ESV). There are six key worldviews that are covered throughout Romans, all have their own importance and reasoning for Paul pointing them out.

God

Is there a God? That is a question that had been asked by skeptics for as long as people have been around. The answer to this question is an undeniable YES! God is righteous, wrathful, divine, immortal, loving, sovereign, wise, and eternal just to name a few.

God is righteous and it is our job as Christians not to judge but to have faith in God and live by that faith. “1 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For bin passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. 2 We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things.” Romans 2:1-2 (ESV). While we as Christians are made righteous through the blood of Jesus Christ, it does not mean that God will not punish or bring wrath. The Old Testament is filled with stories of God’s wrath; the casting of Adam and Eve out of the garden of Eden, Noah and the Ark, famines, plagues, and destruction of whole towns and villages because they were not following God’s law. Through Jesus’ blood we are made safe from the ultimate wrath of God, Hell.

God is eternal and possesses eternal power. Romans 1:20 states that “20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, shave been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” (ESV) God is everywhere all of the time and can do all things big or small. God is the creator of the Heavens and Earth and everything in between.

God gives life to all things. We see day by day in Genesis when how and why God created all things. Jesus performed miracles to show that he was the son of God in John 11 it tells of how Jesus raised Lazarus up from the dead, and in Mark 5 he raised a little girl from the dead. God gives life when there is no hope. God loves everyone so much Romans 5:8 says “8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (ESV) God gave his son for us so that we can live with him forever in Heaven, that is the ultimate statement of love.

Creation

Paul speaks of God’s creation in two areas of his letter to the Romans. He reminded them in Romans 1:25 that God was the creator, and as God being immortal, divine, and having eternal power in association to his creation in Romans 1:20-23. Paul is reminding us that we are God’s creations and that evidence of that can be found in everyone. We are also reminded that we are to be righteous and glorify God’s truths. Since his creation has been made known to us we are without excuse, and we are to glorify God in all that we do Paul also tells us that one God’s creation as a whole will be set free and will be reunited with our creator.

Paul discusses human nature in Romans 1:26-32. These verses maybe old in years but still apply to today’s society. We as Christians are not to be as Paul describes ” 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, emen committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to ga debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them. “ Romans 1: 27-32.

Sin

Sin has been around since the beginning in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit. Since then sin has spread to all humanity and though no one sin is worse than the other in God’s eyes; we are all riddled with sin. The Romans were no different as we saw earlier there was adultery, lying, theft, sexual impurity, and murder. One of the most known verses in the book of Romans is “23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 (ESV) DEATH, that is the consequence of sin.

Salvation

Everyone has sinned and deserves separation from God eternally, but God did not want to be separated from his children. God sent us Jesus Christ his son to live with man and ultimately die for OUR sins. Paul’s letter to the Romans speaks of salvation, the need for a savior, and what it means to be a follower of Christ. We learn that through sin we are dead to god, separated from him. Even though he loves us, we can never atone for our sins on our own. Salvation only comes from God which was the death of his Son. Paul tells us that, “If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Ethics

How should christians live in the world? Romans 12:2 “2 Do not be conformed to this world,g but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect”(ESV). Paul writes and directs the Romans to serve God using their spiritual gifts, everyone is not gifted the same way. We should not look down on anyone because we are all equal in God’s eyes. Paul also directs us to behave as a christian “9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. “ Roman 12:9 (ESV). There is a continuous debate on how christians should act, the fact of the matter is that we are to glorify God at all times.

Eschatology

Ultimately we will all be judged by God. The book of Romans is not the only book in the Bible that speaks of the future or Heaven. As we know the book of Revelation gives us a detailed description. Paul tells us that no one or nothing could ever separate us from God’s love. As long as we are alive on this Earth we have the opportunity for God’s ultimate forgiveness and life eternally through him.

Conclusion

Paul has given us a 360 degree view of God, his characteristics, sin, salvation, and our future as Christians. Having a worldview is not uncommon but having a biblically based worldview is one of the foundations of a servant of God. We are God’s children made in his own image and should act as such.
