The story“Rip Van Winkle” is ready during a remote place throughout the reign of St. George the Third.
It is set in a small village underlyingthe Kaatskill Mountains. At the foot of those mountains, there was light smoke swirling up from the village, and gleamingroofs alongthe trees. It had been founded bysome of the Dutch colonists. Theysettled throughout the time of St. George the Third. This was duringthe yoke of old England, where some myths originated.
The setting’s characteristics largelyimpacted the story. It puts one’s mind into a mysterious place and time. The characters of “Rip Van Winkle” ar terriblystrange. Specifically, Rip Van Winkle. Of all the characters, he stands out the most. Rip is very peculiar being. He was lazy,kind, and helpful. He is represented during a silly manner within the story. The fact that he is helpingsome kids play a game ofmarbles shows it’s age. At a precise purpose throughout the story, Rip meets some men on a mountain. They were a bit odd. Not to mention unreal, mythical people. They had magical liquor. The characters conjointly had a large impact on the story.
The story of “Rip Van Winkle” undoubtedlyfeatured supernatural and mysterious events. The main event must do with Rip Van Winkle. It started with him being bored to death together with his wife’s ill-natured. Rip got thus uninterested in it, he went for a long walkinto the mountains. While he was within the mountains, he met the mysterious men and drank a number of their supernatural liquor. That supernatural liquor place him to sleep for twentyyears. In those twentyyears, he missed his child growing up along with hisgrandchild, the passing of his wife dog and neighbors. As with the opposite topics, the events and their consequences in this tale have a major impact on the story.
All in all, Rip Van Winkle may be a marvelous story. As a myth, it integrated 3 main characteristics into the story. These 3 characteristics include; fascinatingcharacteristics, magical events and are set in excitingtimes in the past. Irving incorporated these things well. They wedged the storyitself and therefore the readers expertise.
