The Mediterranean Sea is called the sea on land because it borders the three continents, the origin of modern European civilization. The Mediterranean, which played a central role in Europe through the prosperity of Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Spain, has been called variously in history. The Mediterranean sea was called the ‘Great Green’ by Ancient Egyptians, the ‘our sea’ by ancient Romans, the ‘great sea’ by Jews and ‘white seas’ by Turks. These various names themselves are representative grounds for the diversity of Mediterranean civilization. The Mediterranean religion has also been transformed and propagated as diverse as the diversity of civilization. The Mediterranean, which valued diversity, always showed tolerance for trade, but somehow not always about religion. Today I will explain the diversity and importance of the Mediterranean religion.

First of all, we need to think about the origin of religion before all of this. Ancient and medieval religions were not regarded as doctrines, practices, but as individual virtues of worship. The civilization of various early tribes began to develop to a certain level and culture began to develop. The development of civilization means that people are living together and that an agricultural or trading society at the state or ethnic level has been formed. In this process, people gradually organized a basic relief faith that wished for abundance and fertility. Furthermore, belief influenced the mental aspects of the human condition, creation of the world, life after death, eternal life, and ways to escape pain in this world or the next world, and each nation began to make each god according to their religion. Religion might begin this way, And these ancient beliefs develop closer to religion as they begin to write. In ancient times, religion was indistinguishable from what is known today as the 'mythology' and more likely Polytheism. The monotheism did not work with the ancient people except for the prophets and prophets of Judaism. Most people believed in many gods, at least as long as they could discern from records and archaeological records, each of whom had a special part of influence. Religions in ancient Egypt and ancient Rome show these characteristics more and more clearly.

However, as time goes by, religion changes from polytheists to the monotheistic religion, In the Middle Ages, the Mediterranean becomes the site of a massacre under the name of religion. In the Middle Ages and Renaissance, Europe was identified with Christendom. To Muslim outsiders, however, the Europeans were either Roman or Frank. For most people, the world was divided into their world which inhabited by religion-communists, and an 'outside world' where few dared to go. Therefore, 'others' was perceived to them with great suspicion. War and religion certainly existed in previous times, but the history of the war in the name of religion began to gradually materialize only in the first century of a millennium, reaching the threshold in the seventh century with the clash of religions lasting several hundred years. The Crusades are a series of European religious wars between the 11th and 13th centuries in which European Christians seek to recapture the holy places of Palestine and Jerusalem from Muslims. It is clear that the crusade was caused by religious factors, and is also recognized as a religious war in its exclusive fight against the monotheistic Christians and Muslims. However, this requires a complex understanding that cannot be characterized simply as a religious movement. In the ambition of new territorial domination, in the desire of the merchants for economic benefit, and in the hope of freeing themselves from the pressures of feudal society, the peasants took part in the expedition of each. There was also a combination of religious insanity and a variety of motives, including curiosity, adventure, and desire to escape. The purpose of the Crusades was, at least ostensibly, religious, so the pope took the leading role. This further increased the papacy. In the Crusades, the foundations were always shaky, as a few conquerors controlled many of the conquered. This war lost its original meaning due to several expeditions, and as it was prolonged, and eventually turned into a war of aggression and looting. And along with the Crusades, the Black Death swept through Europe, further hurting the Mediterranean. But Europeans have failed to overcome ignorance, fanaticism, and compromise, only fueling the hatred of Muslims. Originally, Muslims were rich in the spirit of tolerance. But upon the attack of the Crusades, pessimism and national consciousness were gradually inspired among them, and the passion for the Jihad increased. This war, which began in the name of religion, resulted in one of the most devastating and cruel exclusives in history. This war, which began in the name of religion, resulted in one of the most devastating and cruel exclusives in history. Ironically, this most brutal religious war has happened in the Levant area nowadays, so most Mediterranean cities and European territories have not been invaded. And Christianity in Europe, through the Mediterranean, brought a natural book from the Arab such as mathematics, chemistry, and so on that natural science has developed and also medical science has developed with the spread of Arab medicine. After the Crusades, across Europe has risen about interest in travel and learning, with some historians believing it may have paved the way for a renaissance. But among the followers of Islam, the crusaders were considered immoral and barbaric. The brutal slaughter of Islam, Jews, and other non-Christians has led to bitter resentment for many years. Even today, some Muslims deride Western intervention in the Middle East as 'crusaders”. There is no doubt that the years of religious conflict brought by the Crusades have affected the Middle East and European countries for many years and still affected political and cultural viewpoints and ideas today.

In the Mediterranean, which values diversity, these exclusive religious wars and conflicts remain unresolved homework to this day. We have also seen that in the name of religion, we can unite and ununite the same times and break order. The three dominant religions of the Mediterranean, which value peace and justice the most, live in hatred of each other, still not united in the name of their only God. The time has come for us to be tolerant, just as the Mediterranean has always shown us tolerance.
