The movie known as ‘Coach Carter’, is a film directed by Thomas Carter. Although Thomas Carter has the same last name, he has no relation to the coach, but shows the legend of Coach Carter so well. He is also most commonly known for his work in ‘Swing Kids’ and ‘Save the Last Dance’, along with the actor who plays Coach Carter, Samuel Jackson, who, might I just add, plays his character with great ability and is so passionate about his role. The character he plays in this story is Coach Carter who began as a sports star at Richmond High School and set the record for the most assist and most points scored, who then became a small business owner. Overall, this film is all about the adversity that young black men face in modern society and how they go for being the best in sport more than grades. When he is asked to take over as basketball coach, an unpaid volunteer position he signs up without hesitation and the former coach tells him the main problem with the team, that he can’t get them to attend class, but Coach Carter has a way to fix that.
As usual it follows simple genre patterns, but Thomas added a twist. It's not just about the players, but about the coach, trying his best to shape them into men. In fact, as stated before, the coach is the main character. It has big games and last-minute shots, but it also has so much more, like the struggle for learning and inspiring speeches given by the coach. It also has huge discussions about moral issues manly shown through one of the characters known as Cruze.

This movie certainly has an opposite opinion to the public in which it goes for grades above winning a match. Coach Carter takes a series turn, when he finds his undefeated time not holding up the end of the agreement by not going to classes and not doing their assessments, so he closes the gym. This made the school the players and the whole community furious as they protested and then sued Carter. As this is whole thing goes down, the players and the coach have a talk, where he lays some scary facts on them that scares them straight and let them see the bigger picture. The next day the players started to study and pass their subjects. Doing this allowed them to get scholarships.
This film overall has a great feel about it and is totally worth watching, not only because it overcomes the greatest adversity possibly, but has scenes where the lighting is fantastic and has a great cast, as well it might just be one of my favorite movies of all time.
