I am writing to seek your help in resolving a problem that we are experiencing at work. It is a problem that is causing us some concern and that we have been unable to solve without bringing it to your attention. Scott Wells has spoken to Richard McKay, Peter Carver has spoken to Jeremy Needs, and Daniel Pinney has E-mailed David Ody, But no one is doing anything about this or given us a reply that makes sense that it should be this way, So I hope in that raising a complaint we can deal with the issue quickly and amicably.
Recently in the last couple of weeks, the evening shift found out that the morning shift was getting paid 17.5 percent for the whole shift, when they only do 2 hours unsociable hours to our standard day, whereas evenings do 5 and a quarter hours unsociable hours to our standard working day.

For 12 plus years, at least, the evening shift was paid more than the morning shift, so for at least 12 years the company has agreed that the evening shift is more unsociable than mornings.
Please see attached Dave Ody email response, he talks about unsocial is different for different people, and saying they would probably go to sleep at 9 pm that would restrict there hobbies or activities, but its not that restricting when you have the whole of afternoon and evenings, the point i want to make is that with mornings they can have evenings with family and partners and have a meal together and spend time together before bed, they at least have social life in the week, evenings is the worst out of all 3 shifts we have no social life in the week outside of work none, when we wake kids and partners at work within the normal hours, so do not see them, and for evening meals we are a work, so only time we see and spend time with family or friends is at weekends, so the fact remains evenings is the most unsociable, even the social committee at ultra, does activities on a Friday evening so we are to unsocial we can not even go to work events with out booking time off because we are a work, mornings and nights can go to evening events we can not.
I can not fathom who has thought that mornings are just as unsocial as evenings and should be paid the same when they only do 2 hours out of normal hours and we do over 5, the only reason all of us do evenings is because of the perks of getting extra money, but if we can do better hours with the same money, every single one of us wants to do 6-2 pm because it better hours and we can get some money without doing evenings, and have a social life in the week.
Dave also pointed out that it is the benchmark industry of pay, for those two shifts to be paid the same, I would like to see evidence of this as I can not find any, everything I have seen evenings pays more, and the only time I see it is the same is when shifts rotate so mornings and evenings rotate to make it fair, which all of us on evenings would be up for doing so then its all fair pay and working same shifts.
We do not necessarily want more money, we just want there to be a difference in pay, as we believe we deserve a higher percentage due to our higher sacrifice if you ask most people they will say evenings are the worst shift than mornings, and a higher sacrifice of social life, for someone who has worked all 3 shifts and has insight on all 3 shifts, I can tell you that evenings are the most unsociable and worst shift to work, because of the hours.
For all of us, the extra shift allowance was a worthwhile incentive for the extra unsociable hours and subsequent loss of social life, if the extra incentive is no longer applicable then the only option is to open up the morning shift to all evening shift workers, or at least consider rotating shifts to make it fair.
This has all stemmed from the morning shift complaining about less money and bad shift allowance, then we also reserve the right, and eventual solution, to complain about our pay, as we all on evenings think it unfair their shift had a shift allowance rise and we stayed the same when we think we make a higher sacrifice and its unfair to be paid the same for both shifts.
