Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. Whose purpose was to save all, and touch the hearts and souls of men, Born of a virgin, A man who was loved by men. If you ask anyone, most have heard his name before. A man who cared for the people, who wanted to serve and protect his people. How could men turn their backs on Jesus Christ who came to save them? Jesus was involved in one of the most painful deaths in history, on top of that, he was betrayed by one of his friends, one of his disciples, someone he loved and mentored. Does this story sound familiar?

Politician, one of Rome’s elite, betrayer, an assassin Marcus Brutus, once a friend of Caesar, a man known for one of the biggest betrayals in history. Marcus Brutus was born on June 85 BC,{“Marcus Junius Brutus the Younger.” Wikipedia.} was a man with great pervasiveness, A man who did what he thought was best and would take matters into his own hands if he thought that it was the best solution. It didn’t matter the consequences or who he hurt if he thought it was the best choice. It was the only choice. How could a man decide to betray a fellow politician without thinking twice, How could a man decide to just stab a fellow countryman in the back?

One of Christianity’s most well-known betrayers, A disciple, one of the original twelve apostles of Christ, gave one of the most well-known kisses in check-in history. This man changed the course of history forever. Showing how one act and one choice and change your life and everyone else’s. One of Jesus’s disciples Judas Iscariot, for one moment the friend he knew as the Messiah, Jesus Christ, was suddenly not good enough for him {Biblegateway John 18}. A friend who was now worth to him a few coins. How could Judas betray a man who gave his life to save him? Do these stories of these men sound familiar? What do Julius and Jesus have in common? What is the difference between Brutus and Judas? What is one of the most recurring similarities throughout these men’s stories? Betrayal.

Jesus and Julius. Two men who at one time were high in power, how could they not see the betrayal coming? The similarities I see in these men’s stories is they were both thought of as something that their not. Jesus, Some of the leaders in the church thought he was a sham, they thought, of course, he couldn’t be the Messiah, that he couldn’t be the king of the Jews. Julius, a powerful leader, a caring man who in his will was showing what love he had for his people, was now being called ambitious By Brutus,{“Julius Caesar” Biography.com} Julius was now thought of as not fit to rule over Rome. One thing that Jesus and Julius have in common is always being second-guessed by men.

Brutus and Judas, are two men who took matters into their own hands when they thought their way was better. These men thought it was ok to betray innocent men, men whom they might have called friends. Brutus and Judas are similar in the way of being blindsided by betrayal, not fully believing that something is going to work out, so might as well try to fix it myself.{“Marcus Brutus” Wikipedia.} Both of these men made huge mistakes and suffered the consequences. They learned that betrayal never ends on a good note.

Before this paper, did you ever realize how history comes full circle? How Julius and Brutus, Jesus and Judas are so familiar in so many ways, how men can make the same mistakes, and suffer the consequences. How were two men in power who were adored, lives changed by the fate of their friends? Throughout these two stories, I have realized, that the saddest thing about betrayal is that it never comes from your enemies, but from your friends.
