The song “Earth Song” was written and performed by the American international sensation Michael Jackson in the year 1995. This song was his third single in the album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I. Michael Jackson doesn't necessarily focus only on natural issues, such as overfishing in rivers and oceans and deforestation, however he also focuses on social issues, including war, poverty, etc. Michael Jackson approaches these issues and problems fundamentally through rhetorical questions, as an example;

The “Earth Song” is in reference to the amount of damage we've created to the planet and how people aren't aware of the impact it's having and how it's affecting everyone. He makes people realise that so much is happening and we are responsible for it by repeating this line throughout the song:

Michael Jackson, whose full name is Michael Joseph Jackson, also known as The King of Pop, was birthed into this world on August 29, in the year 1958, in Gary, Indiana, USA and sadly died on the 25 of June, 2009, in LA, the United States of America. He was a songwriter, dancer and top-spelling singer, prior to his worldwide fame, he starred in the Jackson 5 (a family band that was created whilst Michael Jackson was a child). Following his success in the Jackson 5, he became an international icon, receiving Number 1 hits from his albums such as, Off the Wall, Bad and Thriller. His death was caused by a drug over-dose prior to his comeback tour in 2009.

Michael Jackson and his older siblings assembled a band called “The Jackson 5”. His older brothers names are, Marlon, Tito, Jermaine and Jackie. The recording company Motown Records signed them in the year 1969. The band had the flashiest fashions, the most enormous afros and had the catchiest choreography, which helped them become an instant victory. Through their years of producing music, The Jackson 5 achieved 4 successive number 1 songs in the year 1970, like “I Want You Back”, “I’ll Be There”, etc. As the Jackson 5 were recording and selling cutting edge songs such as, “Dance Machine”, Michael Jackson was striving as a solo artist reaching the top on the charts with his songs “Ben” and “Rockin’ Robin”, the family continued to produce successful songs for Motown which continued till 1975. As Michael matured, changes started to happen to his voice which caused tension in the family, a contract stand, etc.

Michael Jackson’s first solo attempt for Epic, Off the Wall in the year 1979, surpassed all expectations and was the best selling album of the year and it eventually sold more than 20 million copies. Produced by Quincy Jones, Off the Wall produced the international hit singles “Rock with you” and “Don't Stop ’til You Get Enough”, which both manifested Jackson’s spirited style and capitalised on the modern disco dance craze. He returned with another collaboration with Quincy Jones 3 years later, Thriller, a masterpiece that displayed a collection of guest stars and raised him to international fame. Thriller received an abundance of awards, containing a record-setting 8 Grammys and it remained on the pop charts for more than 2 years and sold more than 40 million copies, it long holds the reputation of being the best-selling album in history.

By the year 1984, Jackson was known worldwide as the “King of Pop” and his solo albums, that topped charts, such as, “Bad” (1987) and “Dangerous” (1991), fastened Jackson’s dominance of pop music. Circa 1984, His reunion with the family band, the Jackson 5, was one of the most populated concerts. “We Are the World”, the anthem for the USA for Africa, was written in the year 1985, by both Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson. The family band, the Jackson 5, were initiated into the Hall of Fame for Rock and Roll, and in 2001, the King of Pop, was called up in 2001.
