“Stuff your eyes with wonder, he said, live as if you'd drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It's more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories,” Raybrad Bury once said (Bradbury 150). Into the fire one must go to correlate the novel Fahrenheit 451 and the depiction of it as a movie. If one looks at the book then looks at the movie one might notice at first glance is the discrepancies in Clarisse. One might also observe the changes in Mildred, or Linda. If one looks even deeper into the novel and movie one can notice the pace change shown and disappearance of characters and the roles that other characters take. While Fahrenheit 451 as a novel and the depiction of it as a movie represent the same concept, life in a dystopian society, one can spot some key differences in both of them.
Clarisse is a character that questions everything, she makes Montag begin questioning many ideas. In the film one might notice that she is a teacher throughout the film and she teaches Montag some things, whilst in the beginning of the novel she asks him questions but disappears soon after. Clarisse replaces Professor Faber which does not appear throughout the movie. At the beginning of the novel and movie Clarisse ask Montag the same question “Are you happy?” (Bradbury 7). Montag has a similar reaction in the novel as he does in the film, he somewhat laughs about it but later begins to question it. In the novel, Montag turns a corner and runs into Clarisse, but in the movie, they meet on a train, or subway. Clarisse is 16 in the novel but 20 in the movie. Minute differences like this separate the novel from the movie. One might say the biggest difference is that Clarisse does not disappear in the movie but early on in the book Clarisse disappears.

Montag’s wife Mildred, or Linda is the character that one notices many differences in. The biggest difference observed in Linda is that she did not overdose, whilst Mildred overdosed right at the beginning when Montag arrived home. The quite obvious difference that one notices is that Mildreds name in the movie is Linda. However, in both the movie and novel Linda, or Mildred represent everything that is wrong with society and what needs to change. One notices that she does not look at anything from a different point of view, she only looks at things the way she has for years.
Take a deep look into the novel and film and notice the deeper changes such as missing characters and role changes. One key character that is missing is Professor Faber, but in the movie Clarisse takes his place in a sense, she teaches Montag much like Faber did. She takes the role that Faber held in the book. One might notice how quickly the events that take place happen. In only a few days bombs are being dropped and everything is totally annihilated. The pace makes it quite exhilarating.
One might notice many key differences between the novel and movie. The fire was ignited the same way in the novel and movie they but burn in different ways. Certain key differences jump out to one such as those in Clarisse, Mildred and role changes. Looking deeper one will notice other changes but they may not appear as obviously as these. Sarah J. Maas once said “I threw myself into that fire, threw myself into it, into him, and let myself burn.”
