Oprah Winfrey is a world-renowned television host, actor, and producer, but looking at her personal life, we can see the resemblance she shares with Moses. Oprah Winfrey had a tough childhood. Sexually abused as a child, Oprah went on to skip school using drugs and stealing money. At 14 Oprah found out she was pregnant, but after early labor, her child died within two weeks of birth. Her sins and the abuse she went through caused her to feel suicidal and depressed. It caused her to drink detergent etc. for attention. As a child, Oprah was a faithful Catholic, but after her abuse, she lost faith in God. She turned to sin, instead of God during these difficult times. When Oprah thought there was no hope left, she read the autobiography of Maya Angelou. Realizing this was her call, she started to change her way of life by seeking atonement from herself. She focused on her studies and got a part-time job to help her family out since they were poor. Receiving atonement from everyone leads her on a path back to God. She was a devoted Catholic once again. Oprah obtained mercy and forgiveness as she found herself back to God, her family, and herself. Oprah is now a role model for many people because she is one of the most respected, and generous women.

While they are from different periods, both Oprah and Moses experienced some hardships that have similar characteristics. Both Moses and Oprah have sinned causing them to struggle to earn their respect and to finally become great influencers. Oprah committed many venial sins such as theft, self-harm, etc. causing her to run away. Similarly, Moses killed someone (a mortal sin), then he also had to flee from his home. After being called, and proving themselves, they were both still doubted by their followers (the Israelites or her fans). The Israelites often complained about slavery being better than Moses freeing them. Oprah faced a similar situation when the people around her doubted if she would ever make a name for herself because she is an African American co-anchoring with Caucasians. After they both struggled to present themselves worthy, they both eventually became respected influencers. Moses gained the trust of the Israelites and Oprah with her fans.

Oprah and Moses may have a similar way of life, but there are several contrasts between the two figures. Moses had a straightforward path, with more guidance from God. On the other hand, Oprah had to figure it out on her own. To begin with, Moses had a great childhood, since he was raised as a prince who could have anything he wished. Oprah however, was underprivileged and had a rough childhood. When being called, God came to Moses through a burning bush providing him with instructions to atone for his sins. Without any assistance, Oprah had to find out for herself what her call was, and how she must atone for her sins. At this point, both are on the same path to showing people that they deserve mercy and forgiveness, however they achieve it in different ways, towards various groups. Moses does this by guiding the Israelites to the promised land, and Oprah does this by giving back to the rest of the world. She is a public figure who spreads positive messages and donates to many charities such as The Angel Network and The Oprah Winfrey Foundation. Even though Oprah and Moses had different approaches to receiving forgiveness and atonement, they both had a similar path to becoming significant influencers.
