Autism has impacted millions of lives. This devastating disability is caused by a mistranslation when reproducing cells, enforcing a permanent transformation throughout the body. These transformations administer mutations that are usually unhealthy, although, some mutations can help humans evolve like slight differences in someone's hands.

To illustrate autism’s history, let's talk about its introduction to the world. Eugen Beuler discovered autism in 1911 and in the late 40s, people started to use the term to ridicule kids with social or mental issues. It was challenging for people with autism, but its discovery hadn’t been broadcasted yet, and most doctors believed that the patients were sick or hurt. It wasn’t until much later for people to determine whether someone had autism or not.

First and foremost, autism is caused by the interaction of a genetic predisposition and an early environmental insult. Duplication of a region on the X chromosome can lead to it too. Autism can also be associated with the first 8 weeks of pregnancy. If the mother has diabetes, bleeding, or consumes dangerous medicines, then the child can easily acquire it. An abbreviation for autism is ASD which stands for Autism Spectrum Disorder. According to the article,” What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 1 in 68 children have ASD.” To elaborate, there are 74.1 Million children in the United States, and this statement would suggest that about 1,089,705 children are on the autism spectrum.

Autism varies from person to person and children can exhibit the behaviors in different combinations and different degrees of severity. One of the main characteristics of autism is aggressive and extreme self-harm. They may exhibit odd or ritualistic behaviors such as rocking back and forth or waving their hands. People with this disability also feel comfortable when dealing with toys or human-made objects rather than actual people. They tend to feel threatened or embarrassed in front of other people, and they express inappropriate behavior, exhibiting a weird reaction from the opposing listener.

Different types of autism include Asperger's Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (CDD), Kanner's Syndrome, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD). Asbererger’s syndrome (AS) is a developmental disorder characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction. Rett syndrome is a rare genetic neurological disorder that inhibits your ability to walk, eat, and communicate. This disability also is almost always found in women rather than men. Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (CDD) is a rare condition characterized by developmental delays. Finally, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) is a delay in social and communication skills.

ASD has a long-lasting history of trial and error. There’s been a numerous amount of failed technology and procedures. Medicine and surgeries cost thousands upon thousands of dollars. Treatments for autism in a year and in the U.S. alone costs roughly 236 billion dollars.

Successful therapy includes early recognition, as well as behavioral, educational, and family therapy. This is beneficial to reduce symptoms and support development in learning. Therapy will vary from person to person, and it should be altered based on the severity. There is no cure for ASD and there is no one treatment for all. Early interventions are very helpful to help with social skills and communication. Children with ASD usually climb over obstacles by themselves but support from therapists, family members, and specialists makes it much easier. Treatment plans should be personalized for a person’s specific needs.

Autism is a serious genetic disability that can affect anybody’s life. It's truly a challenge and anyone with it is a warrior. There’s a long history of autism and there’s been a long period of trial and error to determine whether someone has autism. It's just a speed bump, and all clients of autism, eventually drive over it.
