There are many Red Cross organizations all over the world. Their mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. It initially only focused on wounded soldiers but over time have extended their activities to cover all victims of these events. The main countries they work with are Iraq, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Lake Chad, Myanmar, Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Some of the situations they deal with are economic security, water and habitat, humanitarian diplomacy, they help migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, they also enable people with disabilities and physical rehabilitation and also help restore family links. The Red Cross has done a lot of things to help out the people in need. The Red Cross has a long history of working with migrants.

The Red Cross has provided humanitarian assistance to migrants, irrespective of their legal status, addressing their most pressing needs and responding to the most vulnerable. They promoted and raised awareness of migrants’ human rights. They provided direct social assistance and protection to migrants and their families particularly in relation to migrant domestic workers and victims of human trafficking. They enhance migrants access to social services in targeted countries and provision of services. For example, in 2015 the Red Cross and other National Societies were able to offer an even wider range of services to migrants, refugees and asylum seekers along migration trails around the world, including immediate post-rescue and arrival assistance, emergency shelter, nutrition and health services, protection services including counselling and referral services, support to migrants in detention, help with finding lost family members, language lessons, and other means of social inclusion. Some of the articles that have been breached are Article 7, Article 13 and Article 28. Article 7: you have the right to be treated by the law in the same way as everyone else. Everyone has a right to protection against violations of their human rights. Article 13: you have the right to freedom of movement within your country. Everyone has the right to leave their country and to return. Article 28: You have the right to live in the kind of world where your rights and freedoms are respected. This really had a big impact on the migrants. This action helped out a lot of migrants and changed a lot of their lives for the better.

Studies show that 65.4 million are forced migrants fleeing violence, persecution or natural disasters, half of all migrating women have experienced some type of violence. In 2015 over 1,000 children travelling alone were reunited with family. In 2016 the Red Cross supported almost 7.3 million people on their journeys in countries of origin, transit and destination. Since this action many more actions have been taken on board. Due to all of these organizations helping out the world is becoming a better place. There work continues to aim to preserve dignity and keep people safe and healthy. Targeted actions aim to improve the rights and access to social services of migrant populations and their families in particular to the most vulnerable groups.

The Red Cross has started this thing called ‘Strategy 2030: A Platform for Change’. This is their plan to make a big change. Strategy 2013 is about the changes that are needed within our International Federation of Red Cross so that we can continue to make a positive contribution. Strategy 2030 seeks to guide National Societies to build on what has worked in the past to become more connected, agile and dynamic, and better able to rise to the challenges of the next decade and beyond to ensure that those most vulnerable are not left. Much progress has been made to improve the lives of the world’s most vulnerable people and with that progress there is hope. At the same time, they know that there are still people in need of help that remain in the shadows. The Red Cross says they will continue to do more and reach further to reach all those in need.
