Mankind’s government has grown from the primal tribe leaders meeting over a lit fire flickering from the mouth of a cave, to great marble halls echoing with the ideas of the ages. Government has always existed in some form whether organized or not. From strongest and best hunter in the tribe, to the best spoken and marketed oligarch, forms of government have always been in society, both primal and modern. One thing that has always had extreme influence on these social structures, is religion. Society today seems to have lost what history taught us about this dangerous mixture of church and state.
Government is a necessary structure in order to further society in all fields of study. It creates, when done properly, an easier means of creating wealth, safety, and knowledge. Government creates libraries, protects basic human rights, and looks to further the whole of its people. Government gives power to some men over their peers. Government on its own can never be without flaw, as human error and emotion will always be in the way. Such is the nature of man for era after era; however, it is the best form of advancing humanity to date. Religion itself also has an immense affect on the social constructs of men. Religion can raise some of the grandest cathedrals or be the catalyst for genocide. Religion is often warped by men to meet their purposes and ends.

Perception is reality in the case of men. Belief is the truth regardless of what was intended. As such, Religion is a binding force to unite all men. What is done with the common mind has always been shaped by the leaders of our world. Combining government with the social binding power of religion, creates a mob mentality of like minded people who are unwilling to think for themselves. They act and think unknowingly, like those around them that are driven by leaders. The Salem witch trials are well known throughout history. The Salem witch trials are one of the best examples of the end result of mixing the two for-mentioned social structures. Whether you believe that men are instinctively evil or that evil is learned, it’s without a doubt proven by history that absolute power corrupts. The power of government allows common men to make decisions.
These must typically be backed with support and reason. Religion allows these men to distort and even create purpose. Seeing as scripture in all religions can be interpreted in multiple ways. Religion is the nail and the government is the hammer to drive the cause through. In conclusion, government bodies should never be governed by decisions based on any religion. The separation of church and state were established to keep men from walking backwards through the pages of history. These two powers need to be kept separate to save man from the flaws within its own self. Yet we intend to lead ourselves to possible utter destruction.
