One of the most memorable days I have ever experienced was my mum and stepdad’s wedding. They were married in Zante, a beautiful Greek island.
We had to fly over there a week before the wedding to make sure everything was ready for the big day. Over the two weeks that we were, there people were frantically coming and going, but thankfully all were there for the actual wedding. Overall, a total of fifty-three people attended the wedding: the youngest being one year old and the oldest being eighty-two years old. My mum had six bridesmaids in total, including myself. This was the second time I had ever been a bridesmaid, but it still felt just as special as the first time. I was more excited this time as I was only young for the first time. I didn’t really know what was going on, and also I did not remember much.

The feeling of being a bridesmaid is hard to describe. You feel honored and excited. The first time I was a bridesmaid was for my now stepsister, who was also one of my mum’s bridesmaids.
On the day of the wedding, I had to wake up quite early to go to the villa where some of my family was staying. The villa was breathtaking. It looked over Zante town, but you could also see the beach. The villa itself was beautiful and huge, as well as being quite traditional looking.
My mum was the last ready, and when she walked into the room, everyone fell silent. She was stunning. I looked around and I could see my gran and my mum’s aunt getting emotional. Her dress was sleeveless and tight-fitting with a flowing bottom. It also had a bit of bling all over. I had seen the dress before, but for some reason, it looked even more beautiful this day.
The whole wedding was outside in a Greek taverna in the town of Zante. The taverna was decorated with pale blue and white flowers to match the bridesmaid’s dresses, which were pale blue. Once all the guests were seated and the bridesmaids waiting outside, my mum was ready.
First to walk down the aisle were the bridesmaids. I walked in the front with my stepsister, whom I felt very close to, followed by my auntie, my mum’s best friend, and then my two cousins. We were walking to the song 'Perfect' by Ed Sheeran. My mum and I chose this song a few days before the wedding. As soon as my mum and grandad started walking, all heads turned. I could feel myself starting to get a little bit emotional. The ceremony was perfect and beautiful. They were married by a Greek registrar, who had to be translated by the wedding planner.
After the ceremony, we moved to a different part of the taverna, although still outside it was more shaded, which we were all glad of as it was roasting. It felt like I was cooking in an oven. It was during the speeches that I finally started crying. I think it was seeing my grandad getting emotional that tipped me over the edge. The best man’s speech was made by my stepdad’s best friend from childhood. He managed to make his speech funny, as well as meaningful.
After the meal, there were Greek dancers. The dancers asked for volunteers to dance with them, but they definitely did not expect all 53 people to volunteer! The rest of the evening flew in, and before I knew it, we were getting on the bus to go back to the hotel. No one was ready for the night to be over, so we decided to go to another restaurant. At the end of the night, we walked back to the hotel and went straight to our beds after a tiring day. The best thing about that day was everyone being in the same place. Whenever I look back at the photos, it still makes me feel happy.
