As soon as the chandelier went up and the overture orchestrated over the audience I immediately had goosebumps and knew this show was going to be spectacular. This show was something extraordinary and I feel as if the director did a fantastic job in general. The Phantom of the Opera was magnificent the acting was portrayed through the plot very well and the technical theatre aspect was overall amazing.

The plot in general was great, I enjoyed it very much, a french man who is deformed and struggles to find true love. Not to get confused with Beauty and the Beast, a french man who is deformed and struggles to find true love, or The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

The curtain opens with the scrim covering the scene it’s 1911in Paris an auction of old theatrical props takes place in the Paris Opera. Among the people attending is Vicomte Raoul de Chagny, who purchases a music box. “A papier mache musical box in the shape of a barrel organ. Attached, is the figure of a monkey in Persian robes playing the cymbals. This item, discovered in the vaults of the theatre, is still in working order.”(Webber, A. (1909, September 23). Prologue. Retrieved from https://www.metrolyrics.com/prologue-lyrics-phantom-of-the-opera.html) The auctioneer shows the next item to be bid on, 'lot 666', a chandelier in pieces. As they remove the cloth covering the chandelier, it flickers to life and flies to the ceiling as the opera house is flashed back to its original state. It’s 1881. Carlotta Giudicelli is rehearsing the song “Think of Me” when a sandbag hurdles down from its position on the catwalk nearly missing her. She then refused to sing that night, giving Christien Daae the role instead. Her father Charles Daae was well-known in the opera house making them have high expectations of her. She made her debut stunning the audience. After her triumphant debut of Christine, she told her friend Meg Giry the daughter of the ballet teacher Madame Giry about the angel of music, who taught her singing. Soon, came Vicomte Raoul de Chagny, he was a childhood friend. She explained “The Angel of Music” was the one helping her learn to sing. He laughed at her imagination, he invited her to dinner. When the young man left the dressing room, the mirror appeared Phantom. He took her into the catacombs of the opera. Teaching his protégé singing, the phantom brought the girl to his home & when she fainted, he gently laid her down on his bed. Waking up, she went to an angel & took off his mask to see the true terror behind it.
