Introduction

Iron Man is one of Marvel's classics. One of the oldest and most loved movies and comics. There isn't a set text as it is a set of comics from 1963 to now there are many movies he is in including the latest, Endgame. This report is going to tell us the plot of the first Iron man comic and the latest movie, Endgame, analyze how different Iron Man's first comic is from Endgame, and finally, evaluate how successful it has adapted from one of the most popular Marvel characters.

Origins of Iron Man

Iron Man was created, like all Marvel characters, by Stan Lee. Like most of Stan Lee's characters, they all are inspired by something big that is happening at the time. Stan Lee created Iron Man to be like one of the most colorful men at the time, Howard Hughes. Stan Lee has also been known to create his characters from incidents in his life. For example, he created the Hulk when he had an issue with the printer. He got really annoyed at the printers because there was an issue, so he broke a few things. Hulk was big when my parents were kids. Iron Man was created 20 years after Stan Lee's first comic, Namor. The original Iron Man was released in 1963.

Iron Man hasn't got many elements. His only element is his costume. However, there are some characters. The main ones include himself, the army, and villains such as Mandarin. This was all in the comics. In the movies, there are elements such as high-tech costumes and lots of weapons. There is also a change in characters like most Marvel characters are in the movies and the villains consist of an ironmonger in the first Iron Man and Thanos in the latest, endgame.

Stan Lee, despite trying to make Iron Man a hated character, is one of Marvels' best characters ever made. Stan Lee even said that it was a great risk but it proved a good one.

Earlier this year (2019), the latest movie Iron Man was involved in was Marvel Endgame. This followed the movie Marvel infinity war which was released last year. (2018) Spoiler alert. Most likely, this is the last movie Iron Man was in. Both Endgame and Iron Man's first comics were great hits.

Plot and characters of the original

Iron Man's first appearance in a comic was named, Tales of Suspense, episode 39. Before Iron Man, he was named Tony Stark. The first comic started off with Tony Stark, a rich businessman who was asked by the army to come to the battlefield in Afghanistan to build high-tech weapons. When Tony Stark arrived, they were attacked and Tony was captured by the Vietnam army. During the capture, Tony suffered a big blow to the chest. Tony was forced to make high-tech weapons for the Vietnam army. The enemy thought that he was making the weapons but actually he was making a suit of armor that could fly and it is bulletproof. This suit also saved his life because of the big blow he had to his chest. He escaped from the army without injury with armor. The suit was silver as shown if source one and when he got back to the USA, he painted it red and yellow and gave it high-tech weapons.

This constructs Iron Man to be smart and fast thinking but also brave. I see Iron Man as smart and fast thinking because of the situation he was in. He was close to dying by the chest blow and was smart and fast thinking to make a suit of armor that will help him escape and keep him alive. The iron man showed bravery by making attempts to escape. If the enemy had seen he trying to escape, they would have tried to kill him.

Analysis of adaptation

There are many differences between Iron Man's first comic and the latest released, Endgame. In Endgame, all the Marvels try to bring back the 50% of people the vanished by Thanos in the last movie, Infinity War.

Iron Man has changed significantly throughout the years. He went from a selfish wealthy business Man that has a grey suit of armor and can fly to a still wealthy but caring and more powerful character. I think over the years, the author has changed Iron Man to be more like a superhero the longer he was a superhero, meaning the more times he saved the world, the more he started to care for others rather than himself. His costume has changed dramatically too. It went from this big great silver thing that can fly (Look at source 1) to a suit of armor that has hundreds of powers and can act itself from Tony's command. (Look at source 2) A big reason Thanos was defeated and all the people came back was because of Iron Man's bravery. This was soon when Iron Man ripped all of the infinity stones from Thanos and attached them to his costume where he could use it to one, bring back all the 50% that vanished, and two, destroy Thanos once and for all just by the click of his fingers. Why this showed such courage and bravery that to work all the stones together takes a great amount of strength that even Iron Man didn't have. All the power from the stones just about killed Thanos, so Iron Man sacrificed his life so the world would be a better place. This shows a great change in character too. From being a selfish businessman to a selfless hero.

The characterization has changed in Iron Man. In the 1960s, when the first comic was released, the Vietnam war had started. This would have had something to do with the fact that Iron Man was captured in war and imprisoned. Now I know that Endgame is a big war but the difference is that it isn't with human armies. In the comics, the war was with and against human armies. The war in Endgame is against aliens from other planets. A reason that this could be is that in the 2000s, more alien-based movies have come out.

Effectiveness and success of adaptation

Iron Man has changed dramatically from the comic to Endgame. The comic consists of big wars against Vietnam which at the time was a true story. But Endgame is still about war but not against humans. It is against aliens which have come into the movies lately. I think this is a good change because of how the audiences over time have changed. There are more and more alien war movies coming out rather than human war-related.

Iron Man's costume has changed more than anything though. It has gone from a big chunky, silvery piece of iron to high tech, loads of powers, and a red and yellow suit of armor. I think this was also a good chance to be done as well. Over the past few decades, technology has changed to be more, effective and animated. This is shown in the differences between the first comic and the last movie.

I also think that putting all of the Avengers in one movie has contributed to the great success of this movie. Having Iron Man or Spider-Man in a movie or comic is great but when you put them all in the same story, I think attracts more and more people. Back when Marvel had just started, there was only one Avenger in each comic. They never put two in one or even mention them in any of them. Although this may have affected some of the character's time in front of the camera it hasn't been for Iron Man seeing as he is a crowd favorite.

I think that turning a top-seller comic into a movie was a really good option. All children from 8 - 16 have loved the new Endgame and all of the Iron Man movies that have come out. They have widened the gap in viewers which has gotten more people interested. The comic was only from about the age of 8 - 14. I think what they have done to widen the gap of age is by adding more violence and more not-so-happy endings. By this I mean that when younger kids see these ads about this new movie that has all the Avengers in it, they won't care really what it is about, they will want to go see it. But the older years, start to want to know what is in it so Marvel has put in more violence to attract the older years. All in all, I think Iron Man was a great success for Stan Lee, and the changes that were made over time were for the better.
