Introduction

Domestic violence has become a major problem across the entire world. The problem affects anybody from any status, class, culture, and religion, but the most affected members of society are children and women. For those involved, domestic violence is physically and emotionally threatening. To understand this problem, several meetings have to be conducted so that the victims can be assisted and alleviate the issues associated with this problem. One of the components of domestic violence is abuse, which results in depression, anxiety, stress disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and self-harm. Children may start behaving differently as they used to before the effect of domestic behavior. They will begin withdrawing from their families and run to streets where there is freedom.

There are several categories of domestic violence, and each possesses devastating consequences. These categories include control, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and intimidation. Firstly, control is the primary cause of domestic violence. These occur when one partner starts controlling the behavior of the other partner to get the opportunity to dominate in the relationship. This control of behavior involves continually checking the number of calls the other partner makes or receives with them the aim of gauging the unfaithfulness (Carlson, 2014). This often compromises the trust among the couple as the other couple will claim mistrust, thus erupting violence; restriction on the mode of dressing where one of the partners dictates the way the other partner should dress. The other partner may find it uncomfortable to wear that way that creating misunderstanding in the relationship.

Secondly, Physical abuse is the worst type of domestic violence, which can be detrimental to the health of the victim. It involves kicking, hitting, beating, scratching stabbing, hitting with a weapon, and physical assault (Fantuzzo & Fusco, 2017). Physical abuse has caused many deaths in families around the globe, leaving many children single-parented, or in some cases, one partner killed the other partner children and ended his or her own life through strangulation. Thirdly, sexual abuse results when one partner uses force without regarding the desire of the other to have sex. Also making fun of another person's sexuality is another form of sexual abuse. Thirdly, emotional abuse and intimidation involve insults and criticism to undermine the confidence of the other partner. It also consists of making threats and accusations to cause emotional harm. Ignoring the requests and needs of another partner usually has emotional consequences on the other partner, thus leading to fights among the partners.

Domestic violence is an epidemic that needs to be dealt with in a serious way to salvage many relationships in the world. When it occurs, people should intervene by persuading the victims to abstain from violence. Persuasion is an effective method to prevent domestic violence. It involves educating the victims, promotes nonverbal signals, and encourage the speaking out whenever a problem occurs. Educating the victims will help them learn how to deal with a provocation to anger before it results in abuse. They need to be taught about signs and dangers of domestic violence so that they may apply this knowledge in putting this challenge to a stop. Non-verbal signals can help people in a relationship to know how to deal with anger. One angry partner can separate oneself for some time to clear mind instead of turning into violence. Lastly, speaking out is the best way of addressing this issue (Kaye & Knipps, 2019). It is vital to call authorities to come to the scene and handle the matter themselves as they are trained on such issues.

Conclusion

Domestic violence is a crime, and victims usually come out of this problem hurt severely. It is a global issue that has ended many relationships, lead to many deaths, prostitution, and contributed to a large number of children on the streets. Human rights organizations should come out to address this epidemic to end its effects on the people so that people in a relationship may live in peace and mutual understanding. The best way to solve the issue is to educate people on how to solve domestic problems peacefully, thus averting misunderstanding and consequently preventing domestic violence.
