Our Friend Essay

I said this whole school year of 2015-16, elementary going to middle school but the elementary kids and middle school kids were in the same building. I said this school year has been one of the most fun but craziest school years I had in my life. It was a lot of fun things we did and a lot of bad things happen throughout the year. Throughout September of 2015-June, and 2016 there have been a few feuds between my friends and me, especially between my friend and our older friend who was really in high school, I will put random names in because I don't want to put their real names in this memoir. This feud between our friend Tyler and our older friend David was the feud that changed this group of friends and how they act and change them as a person. The Month of June 2016 was the saddest month of my life. It made me realize that even your close friends will betray you over some money. It's A lot of lessons I learn from that situation. I learn that nobody is your friend, I learn that it came suppose to be a close friend but in reality, he is your #1 hater, and I learned you shouldn't let anything get between your friendship between your group of friends. I realize how much we all loved him when he died. We just wish we told him that we did before he died but it was too late. So when you love someone you should always tell them that you love them because you never know when the person you loved dies or even yourself.

In September 2015 we were having fun in our class just like a normal day for us but one of our friends whose name was Tyler told us that he liked a girl that was in the classroom. We all tell him, ¨You are not going out with her, you are ugly¨ or ¨ She is cute it ain’t no way you will date her¨ just making jokes about him because we didn't think he would actually ask. At the end of the day usually, after school, we would walk to the corner store by our school to get snacks and go to this place called the Boys and Girls Club. So on our way to the corner store we saw this girl and her friends, I named the girl Ashley so Tyler told us, ¨ She's right there ¨. Then after he said that I told him to relax because he was so hyper about it. Tyler told everybody in our group he was going to make his move and after he walked over there, our friends and I were betting on snacks to see if he would get her number or not I said he wasn't going to but guess what I lost my snacks that day because he had her number. Days and Days and it became weeks and weeks and by October they became a couple and even knew we were joking about him not getting her he proved us wrong, and we were proud that he finally had a girl. So the same day they became a couple after school we all walked to the Boys and Girls Clubs (BGC) and who was always there was our older friend David. David was the flashy guy with all the money and was the lady's man. So every day we always hang out with him especially because Tyler and David are very close friends because David knows Tyler’s big brother. While we were all hooping, playing basketball at BGC David asked me who that was and it was obviously Tyler's girlfriend, so I told him it was Tyler's girlfriend, and he told me that she kept eyeballing him. Then after that, he said, ¨If that's Tyler's girlfriend she needs to stop looking at me¨. After he told me that I said, ¨Alright I will tell Tyler¨. I told Tyler the situation and basically, they had relationship problems ever since.

Fast Forward two months, Tyler and his girlfriend are continuing to have relationship problems. In the Month of January the day we had basketball practice, Tyler´s Girlfriend came to support them. Minutes later David comes to support the whole team. After practice, we were looking for David and Ashley and they weren't in school. So everybody is panicking especially Tyler assuming that his girlfriend is cheating on him with David. After practice, we instantly go to the Boys and Girls Club to figure out where David and Ashley are at, and on our way, we saw Ashley outside in the playground of BGC so we instantly pressed her if she cheating on Tyler and she told us she didn’t that her mother picks her up and took her there. Then we went inside the building and we saw David walking in the hallways going to the game room. So we all went inside the game room and we all pressed David too and he was saying he just walked to the Boys and Girls Club. After he said that we were just chilling and hanging out in the gym and Teen Room for the whole day. Next Day the same old stuff, School, homework, Basketball Practice, and Boys and Girls Club. Fast forward after basketball practice, we all figuring out if we should go to the store then place or walk straight to BGC but then most of our students from our class were at our practice and they told us Ashley left with some guy and we just all believe she was with David, so it was pouring rain outside and we all just look at each other like and shake our heads because we ran all the way to the school to the Boys and Girls Club in the rain, it was pouring like raining cats and dogs outside. When we came inside the place we were all soaked, and had to get new dry clothes and socks. So after we all change we instantly go to the Teen Room because that’s the hangout spot and the first thing we saw when we looked inside the Teen Room and it was David talking to Ashley. Tyler ran and moved David out of the seat because Tyler was feeling some type of way about that like, Jealous, Betrayed, Anxious and more. Then after he moved David out of the seat they argued and argued and it led to the breaking point they almost fought each other and we had to break them up and that’s how the feud started.

This Feud started and we never wanted this to happen at all because we didn’t want to choose sides so we were all neutral. Their feud went on for months and months of fighting and fighting even family fights between their families. In the month of June when he died we all met each other at the school after Youth Quest because we were kicked out of Boys and Girls Club because of the situations that happened between David and Tyler. We all were outside waiting for our rides most of their rides came. Now it’s me, David, and Tyler. It was just silence and it went for minutes and minutes and minutes and then Tyler’s ride came first so we say our goodbyes and Tyler leaves. Now it’s me and David and he tells me the situation between Him and Ashley basically, Ashley wanted to be with him instead of Tyler but he didn’t want to go out with Ashley and she was trying her best to date him but David didn’t let that happen. Basically, he was being loyal to his friend and us as friends. When he told me that I was so happy I knew the first thing I got home was to text the group chat about what David told me. I told the whole group chat what happens and we all were happy except for Tyler because he feels so much regret about what happened between him and David and he felt stupid about it. Tyler tells us in the group chat he is going to text David how sorry he is for letting this feud happen. After that, we all went to sleep. As soon as I woke up in the morning my phone was blowing up. It was a group chat with my friends and they were all calling me and texting me because David died last night.

When we found David dead I instantly cried as I cried so much that you think it was a puddle in my room until I got into school. It was a sad depressing day for my friends and me. Usually, if we are not good at school, the whole school would be sad just like us. The school was like a ghost town, how quiet it was in the school. After school, we all went to the basketball court outside and we all sat down one of our friends told us how he died and it was on Facebook because that’s what everybody used to do in Flint at that time. It was screenshots of David’s friends wanting to set him up to rob him of everything because of how much money he had. When we all read it we were looking at each other in disbelief and surprise because that’s how he died. He was killed by his friends and we just all cried on the basketball court and we all didn’t say we love him yet because we all did and we prayed and we all walked home.

A week later we all went to his funeral. We saw our friend in a casket. I was mad like I was so mad that it seemed like I had devil horns on my head because I wanted revenge but I knew David would just be disappointed if we did that, and he wanted us to do better.

When I got home I just listened to music and I went outside and looked at the sky and just prayed. Then I realized that not everyone is your friend. Even your close friend will betray you for money. After the situation I wasn't friendly anymore, I was more antisocial and kept my circle small far as friends wise. I always kept to myself and only trusted myself. Even after the situation I tried opening up a little and got some new friends from the Boys and Girls Club and they betrayed me as well but I wasn't surprised at all. I have friends from elementary school and that's it really and I keep my circle small. I learn that it can be your own family members, friends, close friends, or even your significant other who can betray you over money.
