A utopian society has been created for people in the book so that they have no rights and no individual thoughts. Every individual is much the same. Daily, everybody takes a pill that erases all memories, pain, and tension. Jonas, the protagonist, is selected to inherit all the world's memories and discovers that anyone he cares for lacks emotions and independence. The power or right to act, talk, or think as one wishes is known as freedom. Acquiring the ability to know the truth, as well as knowledge, are essential elements of living a life. Restriction of these factors can lead to a regulated and restricted lifestyle, which disregards the concept of living freely.
Jonas was chosen to be the Receiver in Training because he has been observed by the elders, especially the current Receiver of Memories, and has shown that he possesses all the qualities required for success. Jonas has intelligence, integrity, courage, and the ability to 'see beyond,' according to the Chief Elder, all of which will help him in gaining wisdom when training with the Receiver. To be successful in his training, Jonas will set himself apart from his peers. Throughout the novel, Jonas trains for a year before deciding that he does not want to accept this assignment after learning enough about the group. He had received all the memories and had the freedom to make his own choices. He now also knows that his family members don't share any special relationship as they have feelings, however, very minor ones. He decides to flee the utopia with a friend, named Gabriel, to go to the real world. Jonas made his own decision.
It is the ability to freely express yourself through your thoughts, words, and deeds. It involves being self-sufficient. Most people in today's world have the freedom to choose what they want and how they want their lives to be. Everything is different in the book 'The Giver.' The Community has forgotten what it is to be free. Community members are assured a steady, painless life by renouncing their freedom of choice. As a result, the people live happy but robotic lives. When Jonas discovers memory, he learns that having the freedom to do whatever you want is crucial to human pleasure. He recognizes that he is the sole one in the community who has the authority to make all decisions. When he understands how the community is blocking him from choice, he starts to question it. He initially finds it handy and beneficial. 'We must do everything we can to protect people from making poor decisions.' However, as he discovers how they are going about it, he begins to act against it. He begins by refusing to take his pills, these make him feel and cause him to have pleasant dreams. This was a seemingly insignificant decision that had a profound impact on his life. Jonas made decisions that forever altered the community. Jonas grew more aware of why and how the community should change when The Giver revealed to him that this world is not what he believes it is. Jonas began to formulate a plan, a plan for transforming the community so that there would be more choice, color, and even memories. Jonas and The Giver concluded that he should leave the community. People's memories will be released, and the community will become a better but also a worse one. People will grasp what choice is if he gives the memories to them, and they will have more enjoyment in their lives. They'd also gain hold of Jonas's worst memories, which The Giver had bestowed upon him. For example, memories of war and death. 'But the noise continued all around: the cries of the wounded men, the cries begging for water r and for Mother and death'.
In the 'utopian' city Jonas learns that his society is based on some horrible practices. He is faced with an awful decision. He can stay and keep the society the same, or he can leave and let all the bad memories go back to the people. He eventually makes his choice, to leave the community, and saves a small child from a horrible death in the process. He believes in freedom of choice and cares about others as he left the community into the real world to allow others in the community to have the ability to generate memories and control their lives.
