Discuss the reasons which led to your choice of social work as a career.
I have been asked so many times why I chose social work and the answer is quite simple the reason Why I want to join social work is because of my passion to help people. In retrospect, I think social work too. I often wonder what career I would be choosing if I hadn’t gone through the pain and sad experiences in life. My own personal background would make me an effective helping person. I grew up in Ethiopia in a single-family household, I and my five siblings were raised by my mother. My father left when I was four and I wasn’t old enough to understand what happened nor mature enough to realize how much it hurt to not have my father in my life. My mother and older siblings worked so that the younger siblings could grow up not worrying about where the next meal would come from. As I become older I started to become more interested in social work, but my family was adamant that I has to study nursing. To appease my family's wishes I decided to ignore my burning desire to study social work and went with nursing. I didn't go further in my nursing major because I knew since I was in middle school that I wanted to help people however way I can, I was an advocate for every student who didn't have a voice and would often get in trouble because of this. Secondly, are the three premises on which social work is based. Which are very straightforward. First is that the person or group is important. The person or group has a problem that may arise from many different factors, and lastly finding a solution to help solve those problems so that person or group can live a better life. Finally, is the range of opportunities for a social worker in the field of social work. Social workers can be found in hospitals, schools, community health agencies, and international organizations just to name a few. My passion continued and strengthened as I started to see how my contributions were able to benefit people's circumstances around me. I first realized this from an interpersonal point as friends and family would also come to me for guidance or for me to lend an ear and offer better solace to their hardships. I paid attention to them in a sincere and non-judgmental way, no matter how trivial, horrendous, peculiar, or prevalent the tale was.
Describe and explain how past experiences have encouraged or developed your interest in a social work career.
Prior to my residency in the United States of America, I use to live in one of the developing counties of Africa Ethiopia. Growing up in a single-family household with 5 siblings was a very surreal experience. My father left when I was very young and all the responsibilities fall on my mother and older siblings, they had to work whatever job they could find so that we wouldn't go to sleep famished. As life started getting even worse than it was my older siblings one by one left home for better opportunities, my mother followed their steps and with a heavy heart left me with relatives and went to start the journey to America. I was 11 when my mother left but life had stolen my childhood and forced me to become mature. Months went by and I was still living with my distant relatives, I would notice different men come and go but I was never comfortable asking who they were or why they were coming by. One evening as I was preparing dinner, a guy I have never seen before was standing behind me blocking the doorway my heart sank in my heart I tried to excuse myself but he wouldn't let me. He cornered me and molested me and that went to continue for a year. every night I would go to sleep crying wishing against all odds my mother would swoop me away from the pain and anguish that was in my heart. I remember to this day the vow I made to myself that I would never let any child be in a predicament as I was in. I would grow up and be a guardian angel to children who are forced to quit their voices. I want to help bring individuals who take advantage of the weak to justice.

Describe the contribution you believe you can make to the social work profession.
My own personal background would make me an effective helping person. I know how it feels to be afraid to trust people and be afraid to talk about being molested. I believe that children who have been abused and neglected find it difficult to trust people. I believe that having the same background I can help children who are being abused. My personal strength that I posse is the willingness to help others unconditionally. My experience has taught me how to be non-judgmental, how to demonstrate empathy, and how my improbable journey can inspire others. I also understand the importance of volunteering to help improve my community and neighborhood. I currently volunteer at a place that helps pregnant mothers get all the material assistance that they need for their babies. I work with Ethiopian and Eritrean communities who aren't using the resources that are available to them because they can't communicate efficiently in English. Volunteering is one of my most rewarding experiences for me and it gives me an opportunity to help my community as well as gain skills to better help others. With my experiences during my undergraduate studies and currently, I know that social work as a profession is ideal for me.
Discuss one social problem or issue that is important to you and fully demonstrate how you would like to contribute to addressing the issue or problem.
Social issues have plagued the life of too many people while there are many social issues in this world the social issue that I would like to contribute to address is child abuse. Abuse of children is the unfair treatment of children. It may be in the nature of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. Child negligence is also known as abuse of children. It is possible that kids who are neglected will have both psychological and developmental problems. Physical abuse can progress to a death of a child in some extreme instances. Day by day, child abuse and neglect endanger the security and health of some kids around the world. I would address this social issue by raising public awareness of the pervasive and serious nature of child abuse. In their environment, children connect with a variety of people who play an important function in their growth. This needs to be acknowledged and substantial funding and human resources are needed to be mobilized to tackle the issue. A community that understands child abuse's extreme and omnipresent nature should be a key advocate for necessary changes.
